NBA 2K15 Mycareer (Blunt Review)

Updated on December 23, 2014
The joy of meeting hip hop legend Pharrell was amazing. Even when he was just trying to prevent a forest fire with that hat on, for him to stop and speak to me meant millions.

Though this isn't me, I see we all suffer from the brighter face darker skin tone syndrome. This has been a issue in past games that allowed the option of putting your face in the game. With this new technology however I do sense this being fixed.

Player I.Q doesn't mean a thing here

This game is the 2nd installment that we have to enjoy on our new systems. It looks flawless. NBA live is currently trying to make a comeback yet still hasn’t found a way to stand out against the more dominant basketball game.

Enough of the compliments

2K sports seem to me to have enjoyed the creativity of creating an actually storyline in both NBA2K14 as well as NBA2K15. This time they were able to add in the PS Camera and the Xbox Kinect to scan your face. No I will not waste my time bashing the face scan I think it is unique to see myself on screen. Even though my skin color doesn’t necessarily fit the options of skin which makes me look like I suffer from vitiligo on my face. It’s is still a pretty sweet concept. From being frustrated with your agent for not getting you a job working as a player in the NBA, struggling to impress your teammates to meeting stars who acknowledge and admire your game is as close to as real as it can get. Meanwhile you’re sitting your fat ass on the couch to play this game trying to forget the failed opportunities you had to make this real. I think 2K sports focused more on this factor of a screenplay storyline rather than the actual game play of Mycareer.

Best way to explain this is to express it from my experience. After being dropped from the New Orleans Pelicans and getting out of deep depression because that was my dream team (Kidding) my agent got me a 10 day contract with a team just as great as the Pelicans, The Bucks *Drakes “We Made It” beat plays* At the time I thought because I was signed on a 10 day contract, players on the team didn’t really like me, the star player is arguably Brandon Knight who plays my position that the player IQ was lowered to make me look bad. Now that I’m deep in the season averaging a B+ rating a level 78% when it comes to team chemistry I realize that they are not playing dumb it’s the lack of actual knowledge coming from the creators of the game!

There would be times when I’m bringing the ball up court and Larry Sanders is standing at the three point line hands prepared to be the next Ray Allen. With the advance graphics on the ps4 his face looks like, “I been working on this three point shot all……warm up! Rook you better feed me the rock!” He doesn’t move in till I dribble his way then he gets to the midrange. Why Larry? Why? There would be times when OJ Mayo would be wide open for the three after I drive to bring the attention towards me, Kick it out to him and he fakes a pass to another player then passes it to the other side of the floor or back out to me. I cannot count how many times my PS camera stated, “Cannot operate the PS4 with your voice now” due to my random rants from poor IQ in this game. John Henson has to be the worst player in the NBA or 2K just didn’t care about adding in the fact he is 6’11 and should be able to score when close to the bucket. I like to throw passes in the lane and he is the worst finisher I have seen due to this game. When Larry Sanders doesn’t think he plays shooting guard he is also a bad finisher. No matter who is on him he tends to try to draw the foul which is close to never gets. I never seen Power forwards or Centers pass the ball back to the Point guard when they are face to face with the rim. Why would you restart the play when you are in the post!

I believe it was around 2K13 when 2K sports team worked on eliminating the defense from intercepting a pass when they are not looking at the ball. I guess that decided to return in this new installment to the series. Never try to drop a pass to a teammate and he is being guarded. The defense’s spider senses kick in and smacks the ball to the nearest teammate. I’ve also noticed your Power forward or Center doesn’t fight to get open. If the defense is in front of them then they are just out of the play in till you work something out. Even if you do they may kick it out to the small forward.

Again I enjoy the story so far, and I’m not even going to waste my time complaining about how many open lay ups I missed when I first started, or not being able to complete a dunk when I’m being contested when I first started. I do think that is trash and unrealistic that even a 10 day contract player struggle to finish a crip but I got better eventually. My biggest issue is the actual game play of 4 other players I cannot control.

The update was like 2 GB yet the A.I/Player I.Q for the mycareer mode missed that update. If it wasn’t for seeing myself snap at Brandon Knight for thinking he can talk to me anyway he wants like his biggest highlight doesn’t involve De Andre Jordan creating his biggest highlight over him then I probably would have stopped playing this. It’s still early in the consoles life, I sense improvements in the future faster than the defender smacking down passes without looking at them. I believe that in the future, NBA 2K should have NBA players give advice on what to do in certain situations. We have the options to run plays and sometimes the plays get broken. That would be a perfect time to have a NBA player explain what they would do in that situation instead of Center who tried to set a screen just stand there looking clueless at the three point line as if he is a factor out there. Many sport games should use the idea of getting pro athletes in that sport to help out with the actual game play instead of graphic designers and game developers.
