Play Solitaire Online - The Same Game With Many Different Looks

Updated on November 16, 2011

When I was a kid, I looooooooved to play Solitaire on my computer. I could play it for hours and hours without ever getting bored. My mom, on the other hand, was a minesweeper addict, and she could solve it in the craziest speeds.

When Spider Solitaire came along, it was the new game I became fascinated with, especially because solving the game was not always possible or easy.

Now, a decade older and wiser and more internet savvy, I realize that many computers do not come with Solitaire anymore, BUT I have discovered an entire treasure chest of games that I can play online for free - including card games like Solitaire!

Although my gaming preferences have shifted toward strategy games like Virtual Villagers, I still enjoy playing Solitaire online, especially because these games have such an allure to them.

There are two types of games online - those that you play directly online for free, and others that you can download for and play free for 60 minutes, before deciding whether to pay for the game.

My favorite websites to discover these games are Big Fish Games, Playfirst and Gamehouse, which have a huge range of games that you can play on PC and MAC. After playing on their sites, play experience of Solitaire will never be the same again.

Solitaire gets a brand new makeover on these sites, and I love playing Solitaire with a different theme, a storyline, cute graphics, funny sounds..... in fact after discovering these games I have not missed playing the Windows version of Solitaire that is on a plain green background.

For example, Fairway Solitaire is set in a golf setting, with golf courses, golf clubs, little golfers, and all the golf paraphernalia that golf lovers would love. It is a really refreshing change from the simple version of Solitaire that I grew up on, and just browsing through the comments in the game forums is enough to learn that there is a huge fan base for this particular version of Solitaire.

Waterscape Solitaire: American Falls is another version of Solitaire that is set in various waterfalls across America. In this version, there is a twist to the game, and players do not play Solitaire the conventional way - here it involves a little more matching of cards while traveling to different waterfalls. The graphics for this are definitely breathtaking, and I loved the music too - very relaxing, cheerful and full of sounds from nature. This game is definitely a top choice if you like to play a laidback game to unwind.

One of the top ranking versions of Solitaire is the Avalon Legends Solitaire. Right now, it is the most popular game in the card and games genre of Big Fish Games. This game has a storyline and is set in the context of the player having to save the country of Avalon. I really enjoy how there are so many twists and perks to this game - like hidden power ups and magical surprises that you uncover while playing. What makes it even more exciting is the music in this game. This is really one of the best scores that I have encountered on a computer game. If you are someone like me who relishes the auditory experience while playing online, this game is really cool. The soundtrack transport you and makes you feel like the knight in shining amour riding a horse to save the kingdom. You just have to try it!

So I invite you into this new world of Solitaire, especially if you are a fan of the traditional version of Solitaire on the simple green background!

If you are a fan of these online games, leave a comment! Thank you!
