Pokemon Black and White review
Pokemon Black and White are the newest games released for the newest installment of Pokemon. They feature a whole new set of Pocket Monsters in a new region, Unova. For those that played the previous generations, these two games are going to be somewhat familiar. Black and White have some slight differences, but the main plot is essentially the same. This hub is a review after I have completed the main plot for Pokemon Black. Hope you will find it helpful.
Graphics? Compared to the previous generations, the graphics are a huge improvement. This game is more pleasing to the eye than previous generations. They finally introduced the concepts of depth and three dimensions. Instead of the two dimensional view that most Pocket Monster fans are familiar with; the new settings look more realistic. However, the graphics are still not great when compared to some other games, such as Starcraft II, mini ninja and etc.
Storyline? For those that are familiar or played any previous generation games, Black and White will appear very familiar. The storyline is almost identical to before. Basically, you are a young trainer that is starting your journey with one of the three starters. As a trainer, you want to beat the eight gyms, elite fours and champion. There is an evil organization that you have to beat just like the previous generations. This game is in RPG mode (role play) and you are the main character traveling by yourself. Like before, you have six Pokemon on your team at one time and the rest are stored in someone's computer. Overall, this is a familiar concept with a new map.
Gym battles, trainers' battles and elite four battles. The main plot of Pokemon games involve battling and beating other strong trainers. Your journey is to go to the different gyms, eight of them in total, to beat all the gym leaders. Once you have defeated all eight leaders, you will gain the right to battle the elite fours and champion. When you defeated them, you have officially completed the main plot. Compared to previous generations of gym battles, Pokemon Black is definitely more difficult. The leaders are picking good moves against your battler and some will really give you a hard time. To complete the game successfully, you will have to know the 12 different types, advantages, disadvantages, abilities, offensive moves and defensive moves.
What is new? Triple battles. Instead of the traditional one on one and two on two battles, Pokemon Black and White have introduced a new rotational triple battle mode. In this type of battles, you and your opponent each have three battlers on the field at one time. In each turn, you can rotate your team members to the left or right, same for your opponent. In this mode, you will have to predict which way your opponent will rotate his team members and respond accordingly. In my opinion, it is a little bit based on luck.
Pokemon from previous generations are available only after you have defeated the elite fours, N and Genesis. Unlike previous generations, this game allows you access to several towns only after you have completed the main plot. I would say that it takes approximately twenty five hours of continuous play to defeat the elite fours for the first time. Overall, this game is fun for both seasoned and new players. With its hugely improved graphics, it is a winner for those that pay attention to details.
