Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board Review- Suitable for the Whole Family
A few months ago I bought 2 sets of Wii fit plus with balance board for my parents and parents-in-law respectively. So far they find it very enjoyable and the gadget has brought loads of fun to family and friends who visited them as well. Looking at what Wii fit plus has done to both my boyfriends’ parents and mine, I reckon it's a good idea to share the comments of the Wii fit plus and balance board here.
General Set Up (Satisfaction Level: 9 out of 10)
If you are already familiar with Wii, it should not be very difficult to set up the whole thing. I helped both my parents to set them up according to the instruction provided on the user manual.
Setting Up the Balance Board
The whole set up procedure is very user-friendly. The only thing you should pay attention is the positioning of the balance board. We first set up the balance board in my parents' place, with a thin carpet underneath. When we set up another balance board at my parents-in-law's place where only a rug with rough texture is available, the balancing of the board seems to be disturbed. At the end, they got a new medium size thin carpet. It seems like it is always nicer to have a carpet underneath the board for a better grip.
Maintenance (Satisfaction Level: 7 out of 10)
The balance board in general is very easy to maintain. When not in use, the boards are stored underneath coffee table in the living room.
The balance board uses standard non-rechargeable or rechargeable AA batteries. There is also a 'special Wii Fit battery pack' available, but that is not really necessary for using Wii Fit Plus.
To clean the board, you can simply use wet cloth. We did buy the non-slippery balance board covers for both boards, which is made with silicon, a cleaning-friendly material.
When I tried to use the board without the cover, it is not slippery though. We got the covers just for safety's sake for the 'older' users. :)
To play Wii Fit Plus, you need the Wii Fit Plus software, the balance board, and the Wii bundle
User-Friendliness of Games (Satisfaction Level: 8 out of 10)
I must say that setting up profile at the first time needs a bit of patience. This profile helps you to keep track of your weight, BMI and trends of weight changes, etc. Once you're ready with this, you are good to go. Later on we also notice that there is a 'trial' mode where you can start playing games without setting up a personal profile.
You can also set up your workout ‘routine’ by selecting several games in a role, or a sequence of yoga posture. Again, it took us sometime to understand the whole procedure.
Overall it's pretty user-friendly in playing the games. Both my parents and parents-in-laws, who are 60+ year-old can manage Wii Fit Plus very well.
General Satisfaction of Wii Fit Plus & Balance Board (8 out of 10)
After having Wii Fit Plus for about half year now, we had loads of fun with it and below are the general comment about this gadget:
Great Motivation for Workout
I have to admit that like any other gaming devices (e.g. X-BOX 360, Play Station III, etc), Wii Fit Plus is also a very addictive game.
However, being addicted to Wii Fit Plus is quite a positive thing as you are actually workout while having fun. My parents never really developed any exercising patterns, and now they are addicted to daily Wii Fit routine!
With the wide variety of games, ranging from yoga, aerobics to skateboarding, it should not be difficult for you to find one sport that you like.
Lose Weight from Wii Fit Plus?
Although my parents did not lose any weight from playing Wii Fit Plus, I do have a friend who use Wii Fit Plus as her own 'personal trainer' at home and lost quite some weight (I'm not sure the exact amount she lost but her figure is visually slimmer). If you are addicted to it, just let yourself addicted and see what it would do to your body!

Great Fun when Playing in Groups
Well, we can't deny that the movements you made on the balance board sometimes looks ridiculously funny. Our family enjoyed playing it a lot when we are gathering at my parents' place. This is the top Wii game we liked, next to the dancing game.
Accuracy of Figures?
If there is anything to complain about Wii Fit Plus, it has to be the accuracy of figures provided. These figures include your weight, BMI index, calories burnt and so forth. All of us are weighted bit lighter than using any other normal scale, while the session on calories burnt seems to be static, no matter if you worked harder or not. Perhaps these are something that Nintendo needs to look at.
In short, Wii Fit Plus has given our family a lot of joy and is a nice gadget to keep my parents moving in a safe manner.
Hope this product review of Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board can help you in making your purchasing decision.
