Races in Rift: Planes of Telara
Interested in Rift: Planes of Telara, but not sure where to start? The first thing to look at when deciding on the races in Rift you would like to play, is their faction alignment. Guardians are more devout religious people, while the Defiants are more science or technology based. The races in Rift that are part of the Guardians include the Dwarfs, High Elves and Mathosians. The Defiants are made up of the Bahmi, Eth and the Kelari.
The starting zone for the Guardians is green and lush. Trees cover the entire first zone and shortly afterwards you will head into a haunted forest called Gloamwood. Though, neither race is "evil", Guardians come across as the more regal of the two races. With brighter and lighter colors and towns that look fresh and new, this is the "prettier" of the two side
The Defiants start in the future surrounded by steam-punk inspired machines. The first few zones include greens, though, not to the extent of the Guardians. Defiant areas are surrounded more by browns and grays, giving more of a feeling of an "evil" group.
Both sides are simply opposing outlooks, so choose what feels the most comfortable, or what is the most appealing visually or ideologically.
On the Guardian side, the Dwarves are the most short and stout men and women of the races of Rift. Choosing them grants two abilities. Dwarves can fall farther than any other race and they also gain 20 resistance to Water. The High Elves have the ability to jump a decent distance at a higher rate of speed and gain 20 resistance to Life. The final race for the Guardians is the Mathosians, a human like group. Mathosians can grant a short burst of speed to group members within a short distance as well as granting themselves 20 resistance to Death.
If science and technology are more along the lines of your choice - the Defiants are the perfect choice. The Bahmi, a race of Giants, gain 20 resistance to Air and are able to jump short distances, similar to their High Elf counter parts. Eth, the human version of the Defiants, are able to sprint at 70% increased speed for short bursts and come with 20 resistance to Earth. Finally, the Kelari are able to transform into a ghost fox, lowering their agro radius, which enables them to move past creatures easier.
