Karen Spears Zacharias' Hero Mama book event in New York City
It was poignant.
One of the most moving events I ever helped videotape centered around the book, Hero Mama: A Daughter Remembers the Father She Lost in Vietnam--and the Mother Who Held Her Family Together, by Karen Spears Zacharias. It took place on January 26, 2005 at New School University in New York City.
The program included moving remarks from Ms. Zacharias, followed by a discussion about the book with Vietnam and Persian Gulf war correspondent, Joe Galloway (also author of We Were Soldiers Once ... And Young), and former Nebraska Senator and New School University President, Bob Kerrey (also a military veteran who earned the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War).
As an event-specific paper ephemera and autograph collector, I marked the occasion by securing everyone's autographs on an official media release, collected their tent ID cards (really), asked for and obtained Karen's printed remarks, and saved the short-lived email communication I had with her two weeks later.
Included in this Hub are images of certain parts of the emails (revealing reaction to the broadcast of the event on Book TV), the first page of Karen's remarks, the ID cards, and the autographed media release. And links to the videotape of the program and the book.
I hope you enjoy it. Do tell others about it.
My collection.
