Live or Die, Make a Choice

Saw the video game is based off the film of the same name. Your character must evade and escape from death traps that were set up by Jigsaw. This game is played from a third person perspective and the game is set inside of an old, abandoned Insane Asylum. Your character is Detective David Tapp and although you have limited weapons it is your guile and your smarts you will need to make it out of this mental institution. The setting of this game is unique in the fact that is is set in between the first and second Saw films. If you are in fact a fan of games such as Resident Evil 1,2 and 3 or Silent Hill 1 and 2 then this is a must have game for you. Also, a sequel video game has come out for Saw. The game focuses on using clues and brains to solve puzzles and free your character and others from traps. The fighting in this game features punches, kicks, bats, boards, knives, guns, garbage cans, pipes and even table legs.Danny Glover played Detective Taft in the first Saw film and in the game you control him. Taft is obsessed with capturing and killing Jigsaw for his crimes. Use everything at your disposal to beat this game or in the end you will be beaten. The game has two different endings to choose from which is a great addition to the game. They both have good endings with a long cut scene before the game ends. The game basically let's you know their is a possible part two coming which it did.

Music: The music in this game is very intense. The music follows the plot very closely. Whenever an intense moment is approaching the music will play accordingly to bring the fear level through the roof. Also, the music is dark and scary during most scenes. Rating: 8

Graphics: The graphics in this game are nothing special but the graphics during the trap scenes and the cut scenes are memorable because they are grotesque, unique and scary. The blood, background scenery and weapons in this game look very nice. Rating: 8

Playability: As far as being able to control your character and maneuver around easily this game ranks very high.It feels real when your in a trap because the controller vibrates signifying your heart beat. Ranking: 9

Fear Factor: Saw follows a scary premise and escaping the clutches of Jigsaw is very hard to do. Blood and screams accompany throughout this horror survival game. The only thing is that the traps get less scary as the game goes on. Rating: 7.5

Sound Effects: The sound effects in this game are what sets it apart from other horror games. Gunshots, broken glass, screams and many other sounds will screech at you during game play. The noise will make you look around at your surroundings constantly. Rating: 7.5

Cut Scenes: The cut scenes have great graphics but it is basically retreads from the saw films. On the other hand they load quick and set the tone for your missions.Rating: 8

Final Comment on Saw: The Video Game- Overall, I give Saw a 7 out of 10. I am a big fan of horror games and the Saw films as well. This game has good sound, graphics and it is easy to play with your character but it could have been more frightening. If the game was a little scarier than it was I would have increased the score to at least an 8. As it stands the game is still very fun, stays true to the films and I for one am looking forward to playing the sequel which is called aptly Saw 2: Flesh and Blood. It is very fun and addicting which is what all video games strive to be. You never know what is coming next or what's behind each door. The game does an excellent job of keeping your attention.
