Late 2012 - The Simulview is set to get a massive upgrade with a new 84" Simulview screen with a 4k resolution that will take the couch gaming to the next level for those lucky enough to be able to afford it. The KD-84X9005 PS3 3D tv will put the old 24" model to shame. Unfortunately, there seems to be no in between. Starting saving now - due out late 2012 with a confirmed price of $25,000.
NEW RELEASE - MLB 12: The Show is bringing the baseball diamond to Simulview PS3 style where the pitcher and batter will be able to field separate views using the technology. Unless the offense has a runner on 2nd base, good luck stealing the catcher's pitch signals.
UPDATE: Motorstorm RC is set to hit the North American Playstation Store on March 6, 2012, there will be a PS3 and Playstation Vita version, The PS3 version will be Simulview compatible.
Breaking News: The HDFury4 HDMI Video Processor (aka 3dfury) will be shipping real soon (orders being taken now) and supports Playstation Simulview. The HDFury4 device allows you to play Simulview games on regular tvs.. A dual setup of 2 HDFury4 devices can allow each player to see a separate screen without glasses or the emitter and using a single PS3. The Streamcontrol and Framerate Control features of the 3dFury device makes this possible. The Gefen HDMI Detective Plus Device can spoof the EDID information cheaply as well. Please let me know about your experiments with this in the comments.
As a gamer you probably have seen a list of multiplayer video games that use the split screen effect. Essentially cutting your television into two parts so that each player gets half the screen to watch their action. The disadvantage is enormous as a 50" television essentially becomes two 25" televisions making things harder to see due to the smaller size. Also, there is the aspect of cheating as your fellow gamer can simply look over or up at your half of the screen and tell where you are and what you are doing. For this reason, many gamers have found it better to play multiplayer games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from separate rooms which in some ways limits the social experience of gaming despite compatible headsets and other communication. Some games, going way back in gaming history to games like Mario Kart 64 by Nintendo, even split the screen even further for four player action where each character receives a quarter of the screen size. But on to the Simulview games list..
Sony Playstation has unveiled new accessory technology that will make this screen splitting a thing of the past. It is the Playstation 3d Stereoscopic Display with Simulview Technology. With the aid of the Sony Playstation 3d glasses players are able to see two different views from the same screen and both views are the full-size of the display. No more half screen mess. It is an actual full-screen HD views for both players. When not gaming you can watch movies and tv shows in 2d mode or 3d mode if available. At launch here is a simulview games list and these are some compatible games that will run in Simulview mode: MotorStorm Apocalypse, Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3, and Super StardustHD will support SimulView™ also... The manufacturer suggested retail price is $499 which is for a bundle that includes the Son PlayStation 3D Display , one pair of Sony PlayStation 3D Glasses, MotorStorm Apocalypse Blu-ray game, and an HDMI cable for input. The display is a slim 24" but affordable for 3d gaming entertainment.
This is truly a break-through in gaming. Particularly for families with multiple kids who share the same television for the video game system. It's about time split-screen goes the way of Atari and the ghosts of video game past. Kevin Butler and the guys at Sony have been great about pushing the cutting-edge with new technology such as this and compatibility with Playstation 3 exclusive releases. In stores now, just in time to put Simulview under the Christmas tree this holiday season. More upcoming simulview games coming soon so bookmark this page to get all of the updates.
