Skyrim Dawnguard: The Best choices

Updated on August 4, 2012

Vampire or Hunter?

So you've loaded up Dawnguard, found Serona, and are handed the option to join the Dawnguard or to become a Vampire Lord. Easy choice right? Wrong. The most obvious hook to the new Dawnguard expansion pack is that becoming a super awesome floating Vampire Lord is now on the table, which is why most people would blindly jump right into Harkon's outstretched talons without realizing what they are giving up. The first point that must be stretched is that AFTER THE DAWNGUARD QUESTLINE IS OVER, SERONA CAN MAKE YOU A VAMPIRE LORD! (Actually she made me one just so I could get into the Soul Cairn). You do not have to join the vampires, to actually become a vampire. So the point that everyone should know before making the first big decision is that no matter what side you join, you can always become a Vampire Lord. You do not have to join the vampires, to actually become a vampire. But if you join the Dawnguard, in addition to being able to become a floating nightwalker (pun intended), you can gain access to some armor that isn't the best but it's nice to look at, the ability to hire a few pimped-out armored trolls, and are even able to bring along you're own vampire hunting puppy. Oh, and also you can get a crossbow that shoots exploding bolts, which is a very nice little pickup for anyone willing to do a side quest or two. So now that you have all the facts about the acquisition of the new vampire powers, its up to you to decide if you will lend your blade to those trying to rid the land of the vampire scourge, or if you feel its time to let a new species reign supreme.

Thank you for the informative hub. I picked up the Dawnguard DLC some time ago but have not really had enough time to delve into it. It is good to know what to expect. Thanks again.

All said is true. However as a vampire you get two neckaleces and two rings that make you a better vampire lord by increasing the features of one of the two forms
