Updated on October 11, 2011

Space invaders the classic arcade game

Space invaders an arcade video game that brings back so many childhood memories would now have the teenagers of today rolling around the floor in laughter. Well lets face it Space invaders is not exactly Call of Duty Black Ops now is it, but in its day it was a great game and very addictive.

I put plenty of ten pence pieces into arcade machines playing this game as a youngster as well as games like pacman. Games like space invaders are classics and there are loads of sites where you play the game for free to bring back some of them old memories.

Space invaders has a huge cult following also and you will see it appears on many t-shirts and clothes worn by the kids of today.

Space invaders classic arcade game

The object of the space invaders game

Space Invaders  is quite simply a two-dimensional arcade game in which one player controls a cannon by moving it horizontally across the bottom of the screen and firing at the pesky aliens. The idea of the game is to defeat rows of eleven aliens or space invaders that move horizontally back and forth across the screen. As the Space Invaders advance towards the bottom of the screen you have to use you cannon to shoot an alien, and earns points, by shooting it. As more aliens are shot and defeated, the aliens' move across the screen faster as does the games music making it increasinginly difficult to hit the fast descending space invaders. Defeating the space invading aliens brings a new screen with more aliens that are more difficult to shoot down.On the completion of a level you earn a extra life.If the aliens reach the bottom of the screen the the space invaders have been successful and the game ends.

On occasions you will notice a red space ship across the top of the screen this when hit is worth bonus points and will help you rack up a higher score

So why not give the game a go and let me know your highest score at the moment mine is 32500 which i am sure someone will find easy to beat so there is a challenge for all you hubbers to stop those space invaders

True classic! Love this. I remember playing this game with my sibling and some peers and we would frantically fight scores. Each time challenging myself to gain a top score than my existing one. Amazing. Those were some of the days I cherished the most.

I used to love space invaders, just move fire, move fire. Not much else to think about apart from the inevitable gobbling up process. Cheers great memories, but could i out shoot an addict of your calibre?................................Doubt it!

Thanks seeker7 although space invaders is old its a true classic of the old arcade games. But now most households have a console so the arcades are not as popular.

My god I remember playing Space Invaders on my old Atari machine at home!!!! My Dad use to go in the huff - basically he was crap at it and always got beat. We also had Pacman, Barnstorming and some of the StarWars stuff. And you're right, how the kids would laugh!!! But I loved it.
