The Five Hottest Boys' Toys of 2011

Updated on November 3, 2011

He’s making a list and he’s checking it twice, but it isn’t jolly old Santa Clause. Right now, the boy in your life is making a list of everything he wants for Christmas. You might recognize some of it as toys from the hottest movies or companion pieces for the toys he already has. Cars toys are popular again, thanks to the popularity of Cars 2 and sports-themed items are always hot.

The odds are good that while he has a list of things you already know, there are also a few new toys on his list. The hot toys for boys right now are action toys, or toys that he uses while staying active. When you buy him one of the hottest toys of 2011, you can rest assured that he uses long past the new year.

The Trash Pack Garbage Truck

Picking up and hauling trash might not be your idea of fun, unless you are a young boy. The Trash Pack Garbage Truck is one of the hottest toys for 2011. The truck comes with two collectible figures and the truck itself serves as a storage container. Hold up to 10 different figures inside. The line currently has over 100 different figures, which are all available separately. You can find figure sets with anywhere from two to 12 figures in each set.

LEGO Ninjago

LEGO always seems to make the list of hottest toys, but the Ninjago LEGO sets are unlike your mother’s LEGOs, or even like your old LEGO toys. The Dragon Battle set, for example, features enough blocks to create your own dragon in shades of blue and the copter that does battle against the dragon. Some of the sets tend to be on the expensive side, especially the larger sets. The smaller sets are a little more budget-friendly, especially if you are buying for multiple kids.

Power Wheels Dune Racer

Power Wheels vehicles almost always make the list of top or hot toys for the year, but every year the best model changes. For 2011, pick the Power Wheels Dune Racer, which several companies picked as a hot Christmas toy. The dune buggy is big enough to hold two children comfortably, but small enough that you don’t have to worry about your kids causing any real damage. With realistic sounds and movement, it makes your little one feel like he is in the driver’s seat.

NERF Vortex Vigilon

The NERF Vortex Vigilon is like no other NERF gun before. You might remember the early models that slowly shot one or two foam balls at a time, but this looks more like something you might see in a high-tech video game. Instead of foam balls, this toy gun shoots small discs that fly through the air faster than the balls ever could. With a quick-action trigger, the gun shoots the discs quickly and effortlessly for maximum enjoyment.

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure is the must-own video game for the holiday season. The game is available for almost all platforms, including the XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, and your home computer. Increase the fun quotient with the starter pack, which comes with three figures. Play the figures in the game and even carry the characters to a friend’s system. You can find something new nearly every time you play.

I think I want the Spyro game for myself and I'm nowhere near the targeted age range! LOL
