Guild Recruitment - Legion Recruitment: How to recruit for an MMORPG.

Hear are 10 ways to recruit that work.

1. Recruit by Playing with People

When you meet people in games like Wildstar, Elderscrolls Online, Aion, Rift and many others you will be playing with them in PvP matches or Dungeons. If you meet good players and you like them, this is a great way to recruit. You can invite experienced people if you are the same and newcomers if you are just starting out. It is only one way but it works and you actually know them when they join.

2 Recruit with Recruiting Officers

Some players are just good at recruitment. They are social and kind and have charisma. These people know how to invite others. Elect an officer to help you. You can have more than one officer like this. Doing it all alone is a bad idea. You have many things to concern yourself with such as raids, your website, your forums, dealing with other guilds, and leadership!

3 Let everyone who joins and has been with you for sometime recruit.

You can choose to let everyone recruit. This works well. Often one person joins and knows people who they would like to have join too. Allow people to help you. Let them invite their friends. I have had many good experiences letting people invite who they like. Often families will want husbands or wives to join and even their children who are of age. I do not run family oriented guilds and put an age requirement of 18 or at times 21. But you can decide what you like depending on the style of guild you have.

4 Forums: In game forums.

Use the forums for the game you are playing. For example, in Aion you can post you guild name and recruitment message there so all players on your server and faction can apply to a guild they like. This is the same for almost all games and especially the pay to play ones such as World of Warcraft, and presently at the time of writing this: Wildstar and others. But, even so, many games go free to play after a number of years such as Rift and Tera. They also have forums.

5 Forums: Other General MMO sites

For elite guilds who are in the know about recruiting, even before a new game is released, many typically recruit on more than one forum. Aside from the actual game forum, you can recruit on popular sites that have been around for years. At the time of writing this Ten Ton Hammer is one such site and has been around a long time. There is also MMO Champion and MMORPG. You can find them all online by typeing the site name into Google. Recruitment forums typically look like this "screeny" I took.

Recruit using MMO sites and game sites.

6 Advertise in Game Chat

You can send out a message in the game you play in region or world chat. It is a good idea to keep the message short and not to spam it too often. Ordinarily players do not appreciate many posts advertising for recruitment from the same guild. You need to keep your reputation clean. And if you spam chat, it looks like you are quite desperate. However, there is nothing wrong with recruiting in this way if you keep posts short and not often.

7 Recruit in Low Level Areas

If you are starting off a new guild and are a first time leader, you can recruit players in the lower areas of the game. Many new players at low levels are lost. If you help them by offering them a friendly place to join and teach them how to play or answer questions - they stay loyal often. They are thankful that a leader invited them to a guild and helped. Be careful that you do not spend all your time answering questions. In fact let other regular members do that. You are busy. If you are running a hardcore competitive guild, you probably do not want to recruit this way.

8 Do not Recruit out of other Guilds

It is "lame", you will be hated and your reputation will go down the drain on your server. Remember to be a role model. You would not like other legions or guild recruiting out of your ranks. Now, if a person asks to join you because they do not want to be in the guild they are in - that is fine!

9 Random Invites

Use this sparingly. In fact it is not a good way to recruit. Many players do not care if they get a random invite but often that will mean they do not care much about your team either. Use your own judgement. Keep in mind that if you send random invitations to people that in time - it is possible that other legions will consider you to be an amateur.

10 Guild Application

Many guilds have an application that must be filled out on their website. This helps you to weed out people who are too young or not the right fit. Very well known legions do this. It gets the player to read the guild's code of conduct and description too.

Final Note

Please remember that I did not know how to run a legion when I started off in 2004, I learned some of what I know from playing in other guilds. And some it from the very best types of guilds. It was only after many years that I was able to make a name for myself online and I did not do this alone. I had many friends, officers, assistants and just great people who helped me.

And without all of these people and my own personal experiences of what I like about certain guilds and what I absolutely hated about others - I would never have come up with something I am happy about.

Thanks for reading!

I hope he finds it useful. I am open to expansions as once I get the original 10 done, I will be editing them profusely. When I am sure the base 10 are as good as I can get them - I will select more topics for gamers and Guils Masters.

I will pass this along to my son, a big gamer. Thank you.
