The Hobbit Great Goblin King Action Figures & Toys
In this article we are taking a look at the Goblin King action figures and toys from The Hobbit movie. We review the new figure that has come out based on the Goblin King or the Great Goblin has he is referred to in the book. We will also take a look at some other Hobbit figures and toys that are going to be coming out to coincide with the release of the first movie, An Unexpected Journey.
Since it was first confirmed that Peter Jackson was indeed going to produce a prequel to the fantastic Lord Of The Rings trilogy fans all over the world have been very excited. The Hobbit looks like being one of the biggest films of all time and the list of merchandise coming out based on the film is getting longer and longer. One relatively small company who are trying to use The Hobbit as their springboard into the bigger market are toy company The Bridge Direct. Back earlier in 2012 they were given the licence to bring out a line of action figures based on the movies. They have been working hard for the past six months and now the first wave of toys is hitting the shops. One impressive looking figure coming out is going to be the Goblin King.

Who Is The Goblin King?
So if you are not familiar with the story of The Hobbit you will still be unaware who the Goblin King actually is. If you have read the book you will realise that the character we are actually referring to is the Great Goblin. This character was the leader of the Goblins who live under the Misty Mountains. In the book they capture Bilbo and the Dwarves and take them to their underground kingdom known as Goblin Town.
We won’t reveal what happens in the story but as you can imagine the Goblin King is a very daunting character of fierce personality and strong build. In the movies the goblin is played by Barry Humphries although under all that makeup and prosthetics we are pretty sure it will be difficult to identify him. The Goblin King or Great Goblin makes his appearance in the early part of the book so we are expecting him to be in An Unexpected Journey which is of course the first of the three films released by Peter Jackson. It is unlikely that we will see this character again in later movies unless Jackson finds a way to weave him into the storyline.

The Goblin King Action Figure & Other Toys
As we mentioned earlier a toy company called The Bridge Direct is going to be producing action figures based on the movies. They are going to be making both 6 inch figures and 3 ¾ inch figures. Some of the 6 inch figures look really nice, we have seen Bilbo, Thorin and Gandalf. But there are also lots of smaller versions coming out. The official release date is said to be early October but they are already showing up. One of the most interesting of these new figures is without a doubt the Goblin King.
As you can see from the picture this figure actually comes in a twin pack with Thorin Oakenshield. This set of two characters is known as a Battle Pack and we are expecting them to be very popular. As the figures are to scale the actual Goblin King is far bigger than Thorin and he comes in higher than 3 ¾ inches. The figure is really grotesque looking and it really does look the part. With big fat rolls covering his body this is one mean looking goblin. The body is covered in warts and bumps and really does look unpleasant. Along with the two characters you also get a mean looking weapon for the Great Goblin and Thorin comes with a set of swords.
As well as this release there is also an action figure of Grinnah who is second in command to the Goblin King, he comes in a pack on his own as far as we can tell. The other exciting new release is Bolg who is the chief of the Orcs, he comes in a pack with Gandalf and again looks really impressive. We expect all these figures to be very much sought after in the run up to the release of the first movie.
When Peter Jackson finally unleashes his trilogy of films on the world fans are going to be very excited. There are so many companies who are after a piece of the action and we are getting Lego sets, jigsaws, chess pieces, board games, video games and so much more all based on the Hobbit. For fans of Tolkien and The Hobbit the next few years are sure to be very exciting indeed.
