The Sims 3 Firefighter profession

Updated on February 14, 2014

Become a firefighter and needed skills

You can become a firefighter by going to the city map and find the firestation (recognized by a helmet icon). Click on it and choose "join firefighter profession". You will then receive a schedule with your working and non-working days.

A firefighter needs to be in good shape, which means that in order to earn a promotion, you will need to do a lot of exercise. You can either go jogging or use a fitness machine, which you will also find inside of the fire station. The second skill you need to build is the mechanical skill by repairing things. This skill is needed because you will have to maintain and repare both the fire alarm and the fire truck.

The fire station

The fire station is one of the few facilities in The Sims game where you can actually spend time inside of while working. Here you spend the time while waiting for the fire alarm to go off. The fire station has all the needed facilities available, such as a kitchen, bathroom, sitting room and fitness equipmen. Your colleagues (about 2 or 3) will also be walking around there so you can socialize with them.

During your shift, the fire alarm can go off at any moment. The higher your level of promotion, the more often the alarm will ring. There are a number of different emergencies that could happen:

  • Small fire: this is usually a kitchen or garage type of fire and is easy to extinguish
  • Large fire: this one is not so easy to extinguish as the fire is also spread over the area. you will either have to extinguish the fire as fast as possible or convince the Sims that live there to leave the area.
  • Small disaster: there could be a leakage of some kind or another problem that you will have to solve. In this case you will only see your Sim entering a building and solving that problem.
  • Evil gnome invasion: this is the most fun but also difficult. A variaty of evil Mr. Gnome's are walking around that you will have to find and catch.

Promotion levels

In order to gain a promotion you will have to gain both the physical as well as the mechanical skill. Every promotion comes with more salary and different other perks, see the overview below for more information.
