Why Zombies?
My interest in zombies began with the Resident Evil franchise years ago and is still going strong thanks to popular media such as AMC's The Walking Dead. The intriguing thing about the thought of zombies is that a total upheaval of everyday life could (A very big COULD and a teeny-tiny chance) become a reality. Luckily video games provide us with a medium to re-enact these scenarios without all the horrifying reality aspects, which leads me to my Top Zombie Game list.
Disclaimer: These are MY top zombie games, meaning, of the games I have personally played. This list is by no means all inclusive and I almost certainly haven't played all of the quality zombie games out there. If you think I should check out a game that could be added to this list, by all means comment and tell me!

3. Boxhead: 2Play Rooms
This is a pretty simple zombie shooter with lots of different weapons, maps, and some of the other games in the Boxhead series have multiplayer modes as well. This is a fun time waster.
2. Rebuild
Rebuild lets you create your own town with the objective of bringing back civilization. You have to manage your group while scouting for survivors, scavenging for food, and building new structures while defending yourself from zombie hoards. There are a decent number of random events and many different ways to go about accomplishing a victory. Expect to spend a few hours on the harder difficulties.
1. Sonny
This is a role playing game where you find yourself as a zombie and have to deal with the fact that everyone wants you dead (again). Sonny focuses more on the rpg aspect and not quite as much about zombies, but I found myself playing this game for a few days. There's also a sequel out and almost definitely a third coming in the near future.
Recommendation:
You can find any of these games via Google, but I recommend playing them on Kongregate. Create a free account and you can start earning external badges for the games you play. There isn't really any benefit to having badges except for bragging rights, but I find that zombie games (games in general, really) are much more fun if you have a goal. There are an increasing amount of advertisements on Kong since its merge with GameStop, but it's a quality site. Another alternative to consider would be ArmorGames.
Top iPhone Zombie Games
Note: I got these games for free from the App store but it may have been a limited time offer, consider jailbreaking for guaranteed prices of $0.00. Otherwise, expect to pay $0.99+.
3. Zombie Gunship
In this game it is your duty as the gunner of an aerial vehicle to cover humans while they try to make it to headquarters. There are three different guns, each with 15 - 25 upgrades, and several bonus upgrades. The zombies don't really look too much like zombies, but overall this is a pretty fun game if you can snatch it up for free.
2. Zombie Highway
There is a free version and a paid version of this app. If you like zombies and you have an iPhone there's no reason you shouldn't download this game. Splatter zombies and shoot them off your car while you drive through abandoned highways. Tilt to steer, press the doors to shoot, that's it! Incredibly simple, great graphics, really fun game.
1. Resident Evil 4: Mobile Edition
This game took me several weeks to beat, and even after it was over there were still lots of things left undone that kept me coming back. This was my go-to game for about a month and for good reason. First, the graphics are amazing, one time I was playing while on the city bus and I turned around to find a zombie right in my face, needless to say, I jumped and got a few awkward glances, it's that good. The feeling and style of game play is pretty similar to the console counterpart. There are hours of game play and it's absolutely amazing that my iPhone (3GS) was capable of playing such a great game so fluidly. However, if you don't have a jailbroken phone the price tag is high at about $4.99, hefty, but after playing it I can say that I would actually be willing to pay that (I'd pay even more if there was a multiplayer mode!), and I HATE paying for iPhone games.

3. Dead Island
Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure (or displeasure) of playing Dead Island, but I've been told good things about it. Apparently if you're a zombie fan then you'll love this game. I don't like spending money on games, but I'm almost ready to drop the cash on it because it's about half the cost it opened with (~$30 on Amazon, even less if used).
2. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
This is the game that began my love of zombies. I have fond memories of playing this game on the original PlayStation with my brothers. At todays' standards the graphics can't compete, but it has been re-released for Gamecube and PC. If you've never played a Resident Evil game I would recommend picking this up, it's an immersive experience.
1. Resident Evil 4
I was incredibly impressed with the quality of this game, it is the most realistic and one of the best visual experiences that the Gamecube has to offer, although it is also available for the Wii, PS2 and PC. Simply put, this is a great game, play it.
Honorable Mentions
I would like to also include Call of Duty "Nazi Zombies" and the Halo: Reach "Living Dead" game modes as each are very fun and should definitely be something to try out if you get the chance. It might even be worth buying COD almost exclusively for the Nazi Zombies campaign, it can certainly keep you entertained for quite a while.
