Torchlight 2: Shadowling Shotgun Outlander Build Guide
One of my favorite build for Outlander class.
Basically, this build is about blasting, stunning, and blinding enemies using shotgonne while summoning shadowlings. Personally, firing ar enemies using shotgonne is really entertaining especially during early levels.
In Torchlight 2, shotgun or rifles are called shotgonne.
The build is viable in elite difficulty.
Strength (325 Stat Points)
Boost the damage of your shotgonne especially when it crits.
Dexterity (120 Stat Points)
Basically, it lets you crit and dodge lot. It also contributes to fumble recovery.
Vitality (50 Stat Points)
You need some vitality in order for you to survive some unexpected heavy punishments.
On lower difficulty, you won’t be needing vitality.
Warfare (45 Skill Points)
Venomous Hail (15 Skill Points)
Cast this skill while firing your shotgonne and typical waves of enemies are gone in no time. Combine with Master of the Elements passive and you deal more powerful hail of poison damage.
At tier 3, your problem with shielded monsters is solved.
Long Range Mastery (15 Skill Points)
Although shotgonnes won’t get the range bonus, the damage boost is still welcome.
Runic Games has a good reason not to include shotgonnes on range bonus. Imagine how overpower it is if shotgonnes have longer range.
Shotgonne Mastery (15 Skill Points)
Max this passive skill first. It defensively lets shotgonne protect you from harm thanks to stun chance, knockback, and chance of blindness.
The passive skill is really effective in elite difficulty.
Lore (16 Skill Points)
Poison Burst (1 Skill Point)
A single point can add some effectiveness in dealing with waves of enemies. I just put 1 point since this skill is not the priority for the build.
Master of the Elements boost the damage of this skill.
Share the Wealth (15 Skill Points)
Provides bonus cast speed, dodge chance, critical hit chance, and attack speed for you, your allies, pets, and minions.
A great passive skill even without a party since you also benefit.
Sigil (71 Skill Points)
Stone Pact (15 Skill Points)
This is another great skill that makes Outlander a good team player.
Grants health recovery, armor boost, and damage reflect to attackers on any allies who pass the pact.
Shadowling Brute (15 Skill Points)
This summon is the best companion that you can have. Your overall damage potential is massively boosted, taking care of all enemies around.
With Death Ritual at max level, you can always have a summoned Brute around.
Shadowling Ammo (11 Skill Points)
It lets you spawn Shadowling Bats on kill. Compared to Shadowling Brute the damage is weaker, but the bats move faster, and you can spawn it multiple times.
One thing that I like about Torchlight 2 is boss fights also has minions around. So you can still spawn Shadowling Bats during boss fight.
Leveling up this skill will only boost the spawn chance so it is not advisable to max it. The damage scales on player level and with Death Ritual.
Death Ritual (15 Skill Points)
Maxing this skill will boost the damage of all your Shadowlings and lets your Brute become permanently summoned. Your bats will also live for 32.5 seconds.
Master of the Elements (15 Skill Points)
It boost the damage of your powerful Venomous Hail. Most shotgonnes are enchanted with different elemental damage so this skill complements the build.
Although poison damage gains twice the benefit, it is good to have multiple elemental damage so that you can deal with different kinds of enemy resistance.
Spell and Tome
The spell makes you quicker to attack and move. You are an Outlander so you need it.
Spell: Elemental Overload
I basically include this because it complements with Master of the Elements and Venomous Hail.
Permanently increase the damage of your shotgonne.
Tome: Animal Handling
Increase the power of your Shadowlings and Pet.
Equipment Affixes Priority
This weapon is your primary concern for this build to work.
Bonus elemental damage especially poison
All of your elemental damage especially poison complements with Master of the Elements passive skill.
Most elemental damage can be obtained by adding embers to socketable weapons.
Health stolen on hit
Health stolen on hit is a must for Outlander’s survival since it lacks defense.
This will cover your lack of vitality stats.
Bonus power to pet and minions
Since you have shadowlings on your side, boosting their power is good.
Feel free to try your own variants.
