Flea Markets - Toys For Kids of All Ages

Updated on July 13, 2014

Toys Galore...

A commonly used idiom is, boys and their toys, but girls adore them too. The reason it's used for mostly regarding men, is because men tend to act a bit more childish with their toys. Don't take this personal guys...girls do like their toys too, we just don't dote as much as y'all.

Toys of all sorts have been a fascination for many years. The barbie doll continues to amaze me, is there anything a Barbie can't do?

As an eBay seller I have experienced many sales of toys to kids of all ages. Some transactions made me wonder, why? But, to each his own.

Then there were those transactions that made me smile, by knowing that I just made someone extremely happy. Knowing that I was able to give them back a special piece of their childhood that they thought was long gone, that's what I enjoy most about selling on eBay.

To some people the toy might be trivial, but to that one person it's a world of elation. A good example of, one person's trash is another person's treasure.

What is the origin of the term "Flea Market"

Flea market comes from the French marché aux puces, a name originally given to a market in Paris which specialized in shabby second-hand goods of the kind that might contain fleas.

The earliest English use that the 20-volume Oxford English Dictionary has found dates from 1922.

Boys and their toys...

Recently, while browsing at our local flea market, I came upon a lady who sold many toys. I mean many...as you can see from the photos.

I was in awe to see the amount of nostalgic memorabilia she collected and was offering for sale. Displayed were, toys from years gone by and modern day toys also.

She's been at the same stall for years and also witnessed kids of all ages get giddy when they discovered their blast from the past. I rummaged through all types of treasures. You name it, it was there...probably.

I asked her what age group most of her customers were from and she replied, age 30 and up.

I then asked her if her customers were mostly men or women. She replied, men. So there you have it folks, boys and their toys.

We all have memories from our past that we like to recapture. To re-own a toy from our childhood that brought us happiness makes us rekindle that youthful feeling.

Personally I'm still working on the growing up phase so I enjoyed browsing through all the toys. My husband is a bigger kid and enjoyed the adventure even more, I misplaced him for a few minutes.

Whether you find your vintage collectible on Ebay, at a yard sale or a flea market I bet the second time around you'll treasure it even more.

I don't collect toys anymore. I now consider them dust collectors. I have now moved on to finding dust collectors for my granddaughter. Did you guess what her collection is? Yep, it's Barbies.

There's just something about the Barbie that just continues to travel with history. Who knows maybe Barbie will be the first female president. BARBIE for 2016!
