Video Game Review: Fight Night Champion

Updated on March 20, 2017

Career Mode

In career mode you build your boxer from start to finish and fight your way from amateur champion to professional boxing champion. You can name the fighter and design his robe, trunks, tattoos, facial features, height and fighting style among other things.

Story Mode

In story mode, your character starts out serving a prison stint. You have to fight bare knuckle bouts, as well as, fight to defend yourself when you get jumped. The cut scenes are very intense and from prison your boxer turns pro but, the story line never stops. In the end, you fight for the championship against your brother.

This is the second boxing video game to feature a story mode in addition to a career mode. The first was Prizefighter on the Sega CD.

Final Thoughts....

The game is excellent because it has excellent player control especially with the new full spectrum punch control. Also, the sound effects and graphics are excellent.

The best part of the game however, is the champion story mode. Nothing is cooler than fighting your way up the ranks from prison. Fight Night Round 4 was nice because, it re-introduced Mike Tyson to boxing video games but, otherwise, it wasn't much of an improvement from Fight Night Round 3.That is not the case with every game, it just happens in this game because, Fight Night Champion beats it's predecessors in graphics, color, sound, plot, story or champion mode, improved realistic punch controls and the cut scenes are amazing for a sports game.

Whether you play career mode, which is still my favorite, or champion mode which is awesome as well but, the first time around you should be very entertained by playing this one of a kind boxing video game for the Sony Playstation 3. Also, this game has amazing realism that finally gets closer to real life than most other games can handle.

Note: This is the first and only ES Sports video game that has ever been rated M.

Boxing Celebrity!

The story mode is very realistic and it even has your character conducting interviews with the media. It is rated M which is mostly because of foul language.

Rated M For Mature

This game has violence that exceeds most boxing games especially because of the jail house scene. Also, the language can be quite graphic on the cut scenes and during one minute breaks in the corners in between rounds.
