Choosing Learning Toys For Toddlers

Buying toys for toddlers is great fun and if they help the child to learn through play then that’s even better! Babies and toddlers learn so much and so quickly in their first few years, and we can encourage their development by choosing good educational toys. When buying gifts for my granddaughter I look for toys that will make learning fun, arouse her curiosity and capture her imagination. It’s also very important to check the safety aspects of the toy and to make sure it’s suitable for the age of the child. All children are different, for example my granddaughter is very good and has never put toys in her mouth or chewed them, but my daughter used to put everything in her mouth and needed constant supervision.

For my granddaughter’s first birthday we bought her the VTech Sit to Stand Learning Walker and she loves it! There are so many activities to keep energetic toddlers busy. The great thing about this toy is that it so versatile and provides fun and games for children from 9 months of age to 3 years. It can be used as a walker to encourage baby’s first steps or the front panel can be taken off and the activity center can be used for sit down play, a toy that really does ‘grow’ with the child!

My daughter in law has found the activity center very handy for taking along to visits and appointments, keeping my granddaughter entertained and amused. Toddlers can learn colors, shapes, numbers and animals with melodies, fun phrases, flashing lights and sound effects. There is a phone for pretend play which my granddaughter thinks is great fun, but her favorite thing of all is playing hide and seek with the chicks behind the swing door! A great toy for toddlers who are eager to learn and explore.

Here Are Some More Great Learning Toys You Might Like

LeapFrog My Discovery House

This toy keeps little fingers busy with lots of different activities to do, there’s a doorbell to ring, light switches to turn on and off, and even you can even turn the faucet on the bathtub. There are five play areas which help teach children how to operate everyday items by turning, sliding, pushing, opening and closing. They will also learn opposites such as day and night and all the activities have fun songs or stories that are appropriate to the action. By connecting to the LeapFrog Learning Path online you can expand and customize this toy so it grows with your child.

Kidoozie My First Purse

Do you know a little girl who wants to have her own purse just like mommy? If you do then she’ll love this purse and accessories set. This cute pink and purple bag holds everything she needs for pretend play. She’ll have fun with her own pretend cell phone to chat with her friends and make play dates. There’s lots more pretend play accessories to make her feel all grown up including a set of keys, a lipstick, a mirror, and a wallet and a debit card for shopping trips. A great little purse for pretend and role play.

LeapFrog Lettersaurus

This is another of my granddaughter’s favorite toys! She loves the songs and tunes that teach her colors, letter sounds and names. The dinosaur has push buttons with each letter of the alphabet along his back and each time they’re pressed they play a tune and also teach children phonics which sets them on the path to reading. My granddaughter loves pressing the dinosaurs head to listen to the alphabet song and claps and dances along. My son went to the online LeapFrog Learning Path and added the first letter of my granddaughters name so the dinosaur now speaks her name!

Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Love to Play Puppy

This cute and cuddly puppy will be your babies best friend and they’ll still be best buddies when your child becomes a toddler! Little puppy will teach your child colors, numbers, letters and different parts of the body. There are also songs and games to sing along to and join in with. Have fun joining your child in the musical games like Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Pat a Cake and Itsy Bitsy Spider, all the good old favorites. A fun way of learning for children from 6 months to 3 years.

Have Fun Choosing A Learning Toy

There are lots of great toys to choose from that will set toddlers on the road to learning through fun. I like to choose something that is suitable for the age of the child but will provide hours of fun and can be adapted to different learning levels. Toddlers need toys that will challenge them, hold their interest and that are bright, colorful and attractive. Small children are a joy to buy gifts for and then to watch them play while they learn.
