Why Is Garry's Mod Awesome

Updated on July 4, 2015

What is Garry's Mod

Mods, mods, mods, mods, mods, mods, mods, ok I will stop now... mods, mods, mods... ok seriously I will stop now.

Garry's Mod otherwise known as GMod is a sandbox physics game developed by Garry Newman and later Facepunch Studios, originally being a mod for Valve's Half Life 2, but later made into a standalone game.

The game has a familiar feel similar to pretty much every Source Engine Game.

The only main difference here is... unlike other Source engine Games... this one can be all of them.

Garry's Mod is one of those games where you don't get any objective whatsoever, instead it is meant to create your own objectives, build something out of the ordinary, do a deathmatch tournament, or even race as a melon.

Anything you could possibly imagine, you can pretty much do in GMod.

Would you play a game like GMod?

Why would you want to play a game like GMod?

Because its AWESOME? Now seriously.

GMod gives you the tools to create whatever your heard desires.

You can make vehicles, weapons, etc. Or just blow stuff up.

And with the Steam Workshop available and with a whole community of modders working on new addons, weapons, maps, game modes and so on.

So you can basically create your own game.

Popularity and Fame

Garry's mod got a hold of some pretty addictive game modes like Trouble In Terrorist Town or Prop Hunt,

In Trouble in Terrorist Town every player is in the same team as terrorists and one or several players are chosen randomly to be traitors, their objective being to kill the other team members.

The match is over when eighter:

-The Traitors kill every innocent player;

-The innocents kill all the traitors without killing each other.

In Prop Hunt there are 2 teams: Hunters and Props. The hunters need to kill the props, but here's the thing; the props can change shape into any prop on the map and disguise themselves.

The match is over when:

-the Hunters kill all the Props;

-The Props stay hidden until the timer runs out and the Hunters failed to find and kill them.

Both of these Mods where shown on the channel of the famous YouTuber PewDiePie
and other famous channels like Smosh, SeaNanners, Vanoss Gaming, YOGSCAST and so on.

Mod Community

As I said earlier there is an entire community dedicated to bring new content into the game, being either new player models from newly released video games, movies, TV shows or even MEMES, to new weapons, textures, GameModes and so on.

A very notorious one being the Five Nights at Freddy's Maps; Five Nights at Freddy's being another popular video game. But let's keep it for another day.

Usually Scary maps, parkour maps that usually come with it's own addons for free running on the map, and other crazy stuff you want.

Only checking the Steam Workshop shows how many people put effort into content
There are thousands of pages full of additional free content.

What can you do with all of these mods?

Practically anything from tournaments to playing custom maps with different scenarios (recommend friends for this one, especially if its a horror map) fighting monsters or in some cases BE the monster and so on.

There are also Servers for Online Multiplayer witch offer game types like the ones i talked about before and also Deathmatch, zombie survival(either actual survival with food item scavenging or surviving in waves after waves of zombies), City Life RPG where you can live a virtual life similar to Second Life or Cops and Robbers with actual cops and robbers.

A cool thing a lot of people do is they use the game to do cinematic productions known as machinimas (machinimas are pretty much movies but done in a virtual environment like a video game)

Should you play Garry's Mod?

Definitely, yes.

Garry's mod is especially fun with friends and the full use of the mods and addons that the Steam Workshop has to offer.

The game can be found on steam and it's pretty cheap considering how many things you can do with it.
