Wooden Toy Kitchen

Updated on July 28, 2011

Wooden Toy Kitchen Playsets

A Wooden Toy Kitchen is a great toy for toddlers and kids to engage their imagination with pretend play and role play. Kids love to imitate mom and dad cooking by using their play food and toy pots and pans to cook on their very own childrens kichen. Wooden childrens kitchen playsets are popular for their classic style or retro look and feel, reminding parents of the childrens kitchen they had when they were a kid.

A great place to find special deals, sale prices, and free shipping on kids kitchens is to shop online for your new wooden toy kitchen through Amazon. All of the wooden children kitchen playsets pictured below are available to purchase online at Amazon. Also, by buying online through Amazon, you won't pay for sales tax (in most states).

The most popular brands of wooden toy kitchens are:

  • Melissa and Doug Play Kitchens
  • Little Tikes Toddler Kitchens
  • Step 2 Plastic Kitchens
  • Kidkraft Wooden Kitchens
  • Educo Pretend Kitchens
  • Maxim Toy Kitchens

Wooden Kitchen Set vs Plastic Toy Kitchens

I like how the wooden kitchens look, compared to the plastic ones. I think they have a more "retro" feel to them. That reminds me of all the fun I used to have as a kid playing at my friend's house with her wooden kitchen set.

Kids Love to Pretend Play

It amazes me how much little kids, even toddlers, love to pretend they are doing things just like grown ups. I remember we were staying at a hotel with my parents, and my son, who was 2 years old at the time, saw his grandpa pour a cup of coffee for himself from the in room coffee machine. Later that day (when there was no longer hot coffee in the pot), my son mimicked his actions almost perfectly, as he pretended to pour his grandma a cup of coffee, complete with pretending to put sugar and cream in the cup.

Our local children's museum also recognizes how much kids love to pretend to cook and play in the kitchen. They have an entire room set-up as a pizzeria, complete with a pretend wood fire stove for baking the pizzas. The have a bunch of pizza pans and use felt cut outs for the toppings. There are premade pizza dough, made from thick cloth sewn together. Kids can thrown their dough up in the air, then put their topping on their pretend pizza, and stick it in the oven.

They can also cook at the pretend sick and oven. Small pots and pans, and wooden cooking utensils are perfect for pretend cooking. The slnk at the children's museum has pretend what running, which is actually just strings coming down from the sink faucet. My son can spend hours playing in the pretend kitchen and restaurant area, serving me up some great food!

Many of them are also available for FREE shipping too! What a great deal.

I love the red and blue colors on this Melissa and Doug Cook's Corner Wooden Kitchen. The cabinet under the kitchen sink provides good storage for pots and pans when not in use. It's also angled a bit so your little cook can easily reach all areas of the stove top and the kitchen sink. I also like to tall faucet on this kitchen set.

The Kidkraft Red Retro Kitchen (pictured below), is probably my favorite looking wooden toy kitchen, but probably because I'm partial to Retro things, as you can tell my some of my other pages here on Hubpages, like my Vintage Coca-Cola Vending Machine page.

Okay, so this might be helpful to people looking for toy kitchens for their kids for Christmas. At , they have a pretty moderate selection of kitchens and they're pretty inexpensive. I'm not sure that all of them are wooden, but sometimes that's not what matters to the child.
