World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria - Gold by Soloing old Content

Updated on January 13, 2015

Make Gold by Soloing Raids

Soloing old raids is one of my favorite ways to make gold in World of Warcraft. Because it is effective and by far the most fun way to make gold compared to farming, grinding and auctioning.

Some old raids can even provide a new challenge and a welcome change to gold making if you haven't tried it yet.

You can get started with just a level 90 character with decent gear!

What to solo for gold?

Some raids do provide more gold than others. Some provide more but take more time to complete. Some are just horrible and should be avoided at all costs. You have to find the raids you like and find the most profitable. Your class can affect this a lot, because some raids are easily soloed by certain classes, and some are more challenging or even impossible. Roll a Death Knight or a Warrior if you want to solo everything from old raids to current 5.4 raids, or 2.4k arenas and rated battlegrounds up to 15 players...

Best raids to solo for gold

  • Naxxramas - Huge raid with a lot of bosses. Gold comes from cloths, battle pets and epics sold to vendors.
  • Ulduar - Very much the same as Naxxramas, a bit more challenging though. Unless you are a Death Knight..
  • Icecrown Citadel - Pretty long raid that takes time to run through. Easy to solo and drops a tonne of cloth.
  • Black Temple - Just like with other raids - Income is from cloths. Although in Black Temple I seem to get a lot of binds-when-equipped greens to sell in the auction house for good 30-40 gold.
  • Tempest Keep - Again, cloth and battle pets. Don't forget the amazing Ashes of A'lar mount that can drop!

Making gold by soloing old raids relies on selling uncommon drops and cloths so make sure you have enough space in your bags!

Tip: solo Onyxia's Lair and Obsidian Sanctum for epic quality 22+ slot bags. Also, do a quest chain called "No Pack Left Behind" for 24 slot Grummlepack. Grummlepack is a reward from the seventh quest in the chain started by talking to Smokey Sootassle in Kun'lai Summit.

Set your goals correctly ...

Soloing Naxxramas for Gold

Profits from Naxxramas comes from: Battle pets, Frostweave Cloths, binds when equipped items sold in the auction house and vendor epics.

Naxxramas is my go to raid to solo for gold. Mainly because it is easy and makes decent profit. Cool transmog gear does not hurt either.

Soloing Ulduar for Gold

Ulduar is one of the hardest raids to solo. At least in my opinion. Yet it is an amazing and fun raid that will reward you with titles and pretty rarely seen transmogrification gear! Gold comes from Frostweave cloth and vendor epics. Not too many uncommon drops here.

Warrior Soloing Ulduar

Soloing Icecrown Citadel for Gold

Icecrown citadel is a big more challenging raid too, but can be soloed. Get a healer to go with you and it will be easy. You will need a healer anyway at Valithria Dreamwalker who needs to be healed in order to complete the encounter.

Gold gained from Frostweave cloth and vendor epics, again.

Druid Soloing Icecrown Citadel

Soloing Black Temple for Gold

Easy and fast raid as it is two expansions old. Amazing transmog gear, tons of Netherweave Cloth and ridiculous amount of binds when equipped greens to sell.

I personally used to love this raid, but after fighting my way through Warlock class quest for green fire, I had seen enough of this place.

Paladin Soloing Black Temple

Soloing Tempest Keep for Gold

This is a bit risky, as you may end up just wasting your time. Only good income here are the rare battle pets. I usually solo this mainly for the Ashes of A'lar flying mount.

i know it's a little late, but as a feral druid, Ive been able to solo every raid all the way up to early Cata. Druids are one of the most versatile and easy to solo with classes in the game, imo. I do use tank offspec though, not healing.

Awesome. I wouldn't have a problem switching my heals to tank spec if I had to, I just don't have the gear. I definitely have to try this out now. :)

I'm pretty sure feral is more than capable class for soloing older raids! Just check individual boss tactics beforehand and you'll be fine. Of course there are some bosses that are just impossible for certain classes but they are rare.

Soloing old raids is something I would love to get into, especially since I love collecting mounts. My problem is I don't have a proper tank character - my druid is feral dps and heals. Do you think I could still manage some of them without being pummeled?
