Age of Conan mmorpg

Updated on May 11, 2014

Age of Conan Unchained

This lens is about the Age of Conan MMO, and how it debuted at the wrong time, but still has a good chance for a comeback. It is a fun, graphically beautiful game for mature players who are into adventure and role playing. Age of Conan is a free to play game, which means it can be downloaded and played, but the user is limited on what they can do and see. There is an option to subscribe too, and this is highly recommended to get the most out of this game, as they offer extras to subscribers only. It is a rated M game for Mature players due to blood/gore, and sexual imagery. It debuted in 2008, and it has just reached it's 6 year anniversary in May 2014.

Comeback for Conan?

Still a chance.......

The Age of Conan debuted around the same time that an expansion for the most popular World of Warcraft - The Burning Crusade made its debut. While some played both and some even left WoW to try out this game it did not have a well received standing in the gaming community that it eventually became a Free to Play(F2P) online game. I myself just discovered this mmo after having quit WoW. I'm glad I did find this game, and I'm sorry I didn't play it sooner.

Set in the fictional universe of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian. You can explore the Hyborian realms, as any number of playable classes or races. With beautiful and sharp graphics you won't be able to play this game with an old graphics card or with an old machine. Also this game is rated M for Mature, which after playing WoW for 7yrs this is a big plus. Meaning no unskilled kids or trolls ruining your gameplay experience. You need some skill to be able to do some good in this game, as it is not a button mash to win mmo. Aligning your avatar with enemy mobs will get better results than just standing in one spot and repetively pushing buttons. Whether you're a veteran of mmo's or new to this type of gameplay it is easy to get started as Funcom offers an excellent step by step tutorial after you create your character. When you go to create your character you will be amazed by how much detail you can put into the characteristics that will make your avatar unique.

The free to play account does have its limits, but the game experience is still rather enjoyable and a paid subscription is not necessary unless you want the full experience of this game. More information about free to play and the upgrades available can be found here @

So please check out this game, and maybe you'll find that this is a really fun mmo afterall.

Bored with PVP???

Looking for a real pvp challenge?

Are you bored with regular pvp(player vs player) found in some other mmo? Well look no further. If you want some challenging pvp check out Age of Conan. There are no sides in Age of Conan, which means it's hard to tell if the other player will help you or try to kill you. Gone are the days of "if it's red it's dead". While you can pvp in certain areas of Conan, such as the Borderlands. If you're looking for intense pvp that can be a real challenge try the Deathwish server. It's called Deathwish for a reason, and that is because not only is there pvp in battleground areas, but also in dungeons. You can be attacked randomly in dungeons by any player. While I enjoy player versus player at times I found this to be very frustrating. Going into a dungeon to complete quests you always had to be wary of other players. Sometimes they would help you, and more often than not they wanted to kill you. Which can lead to alot of ganking by higher level players. I had some friends in WoW who really loved pvp, and it was the only thing they wanted to do. So if you're the type of player who loves seeing how good your combat skills are...then jump into the fray, and create an account on Deathwish. BY Crom!

The Big Bang Theory Features AoC

Age of Conan on Amazon - Some great products to enhance gameplay

Sometimes reading the background to a story can help the player get more involved with the roleplay experience. Below are some books and related content. I just recently started getting into reading the mythos of Conan, and there are so many books.

Loved the Big Bang Theory clip, totally funny and not unlike how I have been at one time or another when it comes to being addicted to a game.

@SquidooPower: I know I love this character too....when I was a kid I used to read the Conan comics that were in a magazine format, and the other comics from Marvel. I have recently discovered the many books about him, and I have quite a list to read.
