What about Final Fantasy 7? 1997? That was a full 3D game with an open world.
I never felt that FF7 was that "open" to be honest, it still seemed linear to me, with go here, meet so and so, do something. With Body Harvest it just said here is your world, go explore and do your thing.
I still play the N64! Banjo Kazooie was a great game. What about Smash Bros? Seriously!
I believe LoZ: Ocarina of Time was voted the best video game in the world even during the late Playstation 2/Gamecube era by critics worldwide. It's still worth the price today ^^
I understand that Golden Eye laid the foundation for first person shooters today, but I don't think that it was the best game. Loz: Ocarina of Time, Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 are great, but don't forget Star Fox 64, Donkey Kong 64, Jet Force Gemini
I liked Diddy Kong Racing too... though I still prefer MarioKart as a racing game... also Star Wars Episode One Racing was awesome too.
When it comes to racing, Diddy Kong Racing was unique but Mario Kart was so good that they are still making it. Whether or not it was because of the household name that is mario or not I don't know.
OMGosh... I forgot Smash Bros... I rented that game a billion times until I finally owned it myself :P
