   Is Elder Scrolls Online really going to be that awesome?
   
   A lot of hype, there's the praise, there's the bashing. What are your thoughts?

   I have my doubts, as Bethesda don't have nearly as much involvement with this as they do their console games. It's also by a different lead designer, so it will be considerably different. But different isn't always bad, and I'm hoping TESO is the game that finally changes MMOs considerably for the better. I'll admit I'm jealous because my computer probably can't run it, that and because a lot of people have probably gotten it into their heads that this MMO will be like Skyrim.
   
   Still I wish Zenimax all the best with this, and I hope they can do the series justice.

      Thanks for the great answer, some interesting info here! The part about people thinking of it as MMO Skyrim is definitely true. Of course, all the best to the Zenimax crew!

   It seems that everyone is chasing the next World of Warcraft. That MMO created an enormous market of players who wanted a persistent online world, but it also set an unrealistic standard for everything that would come after. The hype for TESO is no different than the hype for Warhammer Online, The Old Republic, and Guild Wars 2. We all want another World of Warcraft, but because of that game's age and polish, it makes all new games seem inferior by comparison. Rapid drops in subscriptions also means that the developers wont have time to polish their game into something great. I think that the Elder Scrolls Online will be a good game, but unfortunately I think it will suffer from the same spike and crash of all these other games. After that it will settle into a loyal free-to-play fan base and the hype will transfer to the next upcoming MMO. It seems only Blizzard can outdo Blizzard.

      Another great answer, a lot of truth here. Personally, I'd love to see a brand new MMO taking the world by storm like WoW, but as you said, only Blizzard can outdo Blizzard.

   No, it's going to be another generic MMO set in the Elder Scroll's universe. They're using the WoW engine and modifying a few traits so it's no longer an fps, physics based combat system but a point and click hack/slash generic mmo 5.
