I always enjoy a game that rewards just wandering off and exploring. And, Skyrim was pretty good for that - just like all of the Elder Scrolls games.

And, I enjoyed doing a little mental role-playing while I was going. Just doing what I thought the particularly character I was playing would do.

I got a fair bit of mileage out of a character who just wandered from place to place stealing what he needed to get by. Sure, he ended up joining the thieves guild, and later the Dark Brotherhood, and getting back to straightforward questing - but, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of essentially doing nothing important.

Mostly talking to myself, pretending I have two imaginary companions who specialise in certain fields. It may seem sad, but when the companions in this game are so poorly programmed making my own is logical. While exploring I have Donnovan, the team's adventure guide, mage and locksmith pick locks, look out for traps and the like. But Eldris, one of the few Wood Elves who prefers heavy armour, tanks foes whilst my character - Ravenlocke - picks them off with his crossbow. It seems silly but once again, at least these characters know stealth, basic pickpocketing and don't die if stricken once.

But while doing that I like to explore and find easter eggs and quirky jokes. TESIV had loads of these, my favourite being a knife, a bundle of feathers and a 'Potion of feather' on a roof, and things like that make you think of what happened. There's loads of these moments in Skyrim and it helps make the experience a golden one.

Oddly enough, one of my favorite things to do is purchase houses. I like having my own space in the game that I can dump all my junk into. (Plus a place for my companions to hang out). In Oblivion the Arena was my favorite side activity, but it wasn't back for Skyrim. Also mods, lots of mods.
