Is statistical analysis useful?

We make a lot of decisions based on statistical probabilities or statistical analysis while at the same time we hear that it is not always a very useful tool. Is it? what do you think about statistical analysis and how statistics are used? Or in other words... If 4 out of 5 people surveyed hated root canals does that mean the 5th person actually enjoyed the experience?

Yes, stats get skewed so often it is amazing that they are even believed anymore. they can also only tell half a story.

That's what Statistical Analysis is for sure ... but do you find it useful? When you look at the stats and then read the story does it help improve your understanding?
