Baby Shower Buffet Table Decorations & Set-up
My Sister's Baby Shower Buffet Table
My youngest sister and I had a blast planning, executing and hosting my other sister's baby shower. Heather (youngest) was in charge of games, favors, prizes and invitations while I handled the food, drink and buffet table decorations.
After choosing the theme and color scheme, I got busy with my end of the responsibilities.
I thought it might be helpful to some to share the party food ideas we used and how we set-up and decorated the buffet table for the baby shower. Hopefully, it will help you as you plan your own celebration for the mother-to-be.

Need to Know When - Deciding What to Serve
For me, there are a couple of things I need to know before I decide the menu for any party. I need to know how many guests & what time of day the shower will be held.
Both of these elements are very important before you decide on a menu. You don't want to end up with way too much in quantity and blow your food budget. You also don't want to serve a large amount or variety of food if your shower is scheduled for just after a normal mealtime.
We opted for 15 guests and to hold it at 1 PM so it was a luncheon. We even added on the invitation that lunch would be served so guests wouldn't eat right before the shower.
After having decided these two items, I came up with my menu. Sort of a mix of heavy appetizers along with small sandwiches for the main course:

I have 2 of these round chafing dishes and use them constantly. They hold 4 quarts and are perfect for all parties as well as holiday meals. I have definitely got my moneys worth from these affordable chafing dishes!
Dessert -- Cake or No Cake? - We decided to...
My pregnant sister has a sweet tooth. With this in mind, we decided to forgo the traditional cake and opt for a few of her favorite desserts. That way everyone could have a little bit of everything or a lot of one thing. Complete up to each person!
- Chocolate Dipped Pretzels
- My Mom's Homemade Banana Pudding
- My Sister's Oreo Trifle

Trifles are a Great Dessert for Buffets - Pretty and Delicious!
Again, I have a couple of these trifle bowls and don't know what I would do without them come party time!
They hold a pudding or layered type of dessert so beautifully! I think every household should have at least one.

Decorations for the Buffet Table - Color Schemes and Themes are Great Inspiration
We had the green and yellow color scheme and the teddy bear theme (which was what my sister chose for the nursery). So, I made a diaper cake that featured baby rattles and assorted baby "must-haves" as well as a Ty Teddy Bear on top.
I also made a silk flower arrangement for a buffet table focal point. I found an urn that was a drab yellow and had metal ornamentation on it. I used a lot of different flowers in the arrangement including hydrangeas and yellow roses. I gave it to my sister to take home after the shower. She loved it!
I also used silk greenery (small bushes and garland) to trail around the table. On top, I added green and yellow streamers made from curling ribbon. The overall effect was beautiful!
Diaper Cakes as a Centerpiece - for the Baby Shower Buffet Table
A Diaper Cake is a wonderful centerpiece for your Baby Shower Buffet Table.
We made ours but you can find kits or ready made diaper cakes -- whichever you choose.
Setting Up the Buffet Table
What Goes Where?
We held the shower at my sister's house. Her dining room opens to the living room and kitchen so it was centrally located. This is where we decided to put the buffet table.
Rather than just shove a table against the wall, we decided to make a "T" design and take up most of the room.
For the table set-up, I wanted a mixture of heights which was achieved by using a 3 tiered stand for the pinwheels, mini croissants and pretzels; a 2 tier plate holder at the bottom of the "T" to hold the plates, the flowers, a tow tiered basket for slider rolls, the 2 chafing dishes and the pedestal trifle serving bowls.
Turned out great!
