Best Bikes for Girls 2015 - Toddlers to Under 12

Updated on January 9, 2015

A Bicycle Guide for Girls Under 12 Years Old

When choosing a bike for your daughter it is all about style. Just like their dollys, dresses, and bedroom girls bikes have to reflect a girl's personality and their sense of style. That being said as a parent you still want something functional and safe that will last her a couple of years.

Here is a list of a few of my favorites out there right now for girls 4, 5, and 6 years old, as well as for preteens under 12..

Here's a No Pedal Bike that She'll Love

Strider Running Bike with No Pedals

This is a perfect bike for toddler girls everywhere. Instead of giving them a bike with training wheels (essentially a tricycle) you can allow them to learn balance and the basics of riding a bike at a very young bike with Strider's newly designed no pedal bikes. I first saw these when a toddler boy (only 18 months) was riding one up and down the street in my neighborhood . I couldn't help but want one for my young daughter as well. She caught on very quick and when she was ready for a big girl bike with no training wheels, it was a pretty easy transition. She still uses this one to do fun tricks up and down our driveway.

Radio Flyer Deluxe Steer & Stroll Trike

Radio Flyer has been around for years and there is a reason to that. They make great fun products that last. This one is made for little ones who are ready to assert their independence and for parents who know they're going to have to be right there. The 10" trike features free-wheeling pedals which allow the child to coast while Mom or Dad helps by pushing. The best feature is this deluxe model not only has the push handle for parents, but the handle also controls the front tire! Mom and Dad can steer if they have to. No more running around to the front of the trike to grab the handlebar to avoid a crash. This bike helps you feel like they are safe, but still having fun.

Little Tikes Cozy Coupe 2

This classic Cozy Coupe II from Little Tikes has been a very popular bike. This is a safe, sturdy and award winning bike for kids from the ages of 1 1/2 to 5. Little Tykes are a great company and always make great products you can trust.

Schwinn Tigress

This is perfect for little girls who are ready to upgrade from a trike to their first "big girl" bike. This 12" bike has Schwinn's "Balance Beam" frame with a low standover height and comes with training wheels, full chain guard, fenders, a safety pad set and a handle bar bag for all her treasures and Barbie's. My little girl loves the bag on the bike, she will come home with all sorts of fun finds. They get a kick out of having a place to put their things.

Diamondback Mini Della Cruz Review

This is a perfect choice for a sturdy 16" sidewalk cruising bicycle. With a heavy duty steel frame, aluminum rims, and retro 50's styling. It's aqua and salmon pink colors and whitewall tires will charm your little girl with its style, and you will be happy as her parent knowing she's safe on this great looking bike.It even comes with training wheels. Another plus is the black tires which don't show the dirt and wear so your bike looks good longer. This is a total score if you buy this for your little girl. She will be the bike to talk about at the school yard.

Schwinn Jasmine Girls' Bike

This is another win purchase from the name brand, Schwinn. It has a lot to offer. This bike has coaster brakes and dual hand brakes for both the front and back wheels, while most other kids bikes have only coaster brakes or maybe just a front hand brake. The hand brake levers are made of sturdy metal. The training wheels are mounted on strong heavy-duty steel supports and there is a special locking bracket to make sure the training wheels don't slip out of position. This is great for young children learning to ride because they can straddle the bike with both their feet firmly on the ground. The bike feels a bit heavy but you know that it will last.

Huffy Disney Princess 16" Girls' Bike

Make your little one feel like a princess! This Disney Fairies Girls Bike comes with princess accessories including a pink bag, a purple water bottle, cute pompom handlebar streamers, white seat and spoke d├ęcor in the shape of Disney characters.

To add to the cuteness, the pedals are shaped like little, pink hearts. Can it get any more adorable?

What every little girl wants! My little girl loves all the Princesses and this bike is for sure to make her Smile. Big.

I'm a fan of little girls riding the beach cruisers. They look so cute on them. A young girl won't be able to find a more stylish beach cruiser than the Urban Girl. With matching pink front and rear fenders and a white seat, this bike is styling. The white handlebar grips also act as a nice accent to the seat. This is the best beach cruiser around, and in my favorite PINK!
