Best Toys & Gifts for 4 Year Old Boys in 2013 - Christmas, Birthdays and 4-5 Year Olds

Updated on November 19, 2013

What toys do 4 year old boys want?

At the age of 4 kids already have a pretty good idea on what they want, they already have their favourite cartoon characters to whom they can relate too and they notice what other kids have and they want to have it too.

So anything from their favourite TV characters or superheroes is a great idea and anything that's currently popular is a great pick too. As learning and educational value is still important it's best to pick out toys that offer something more than just play - we want to develop their creativity and their intellect don't we?

Browse through these toy picks that are fun, offer something more and will be loved by your kid.

Lego Building Blocks are a Perfect Gift For 4 Year Olds

There isn't a toy I would recommend more than building blocks as they are great for creativity, imaginative play, role play and fine-motor skills.

I've chosen the LEGO Bricks and More Fun with Vehicles Set as it's appropriate for 4 year olds - it has simple to follow instructions kids will understand and it comes with a lot of blocks so once they do everything in the instructions there are no limits on how they can modify the vehicles (and they will love doing it) and build other things not related to this set. It's one of the best starter sets out there.

Their Favourite Heroes & Characters - Best Toys for 4 Year Old Boys

Thomas The Tank Engine

Thomas The Tank Engine was popular when I was a kid and it's even more popular today! If your boy enjoys watching the show this one will knock him out of his socks.

It's a remote control operated Thomas with a super easy controller. And, and here's the fun part, this little train has steam (cold one) coming out of his chimney - how cool is that?

He'll also play sounds and catch phrases from the series so that should be enough to keep your little one entertained for a while.

As this toy needs batteries an eco advice is to get the rechargeable ones - they are greener and will save you a lot of money in the future.

Jake And The Neverland Pirates

Jake is another one popular character and he comes from Disney universe.

I really like this musical pirate ship - it offers lots of fun for boys and girls as I've seen them equally enjoy this toy.

There are many things you can do with this one, you can shoot water (plastic) cannonballs, play music, play hide and seek with the Tick-Tock the Crocodile...

Batman Forever!

He was one of my favourite TV characters growing up and he still remains one of the kids favourites today.

There's just something about Batman you got to love! This playset will let the kids play in the Batcave with Batman & Robin and plan how they will once again save Gotham city from the mean villains.

Learning Toys for 4 to 5 Year Olds

Name The State!

Kids love playing board games with their family and friends so why not take advantage of that and kick in some learning experience?

There is a board game that enhances any skill and knowledge available and I've choose one that teaches some basic geography.

Great States Junior is a fun board game which will help your kid learn and recognize all the states by their location, shape and something the state is best known for.

Introduce them to the world of science with a fun kit suitable for 4 year olds

POOF-Slinky specialize in science kits for kids - they have a lot of fun and more importantly safe experiments kids can easily do on their own.

This basic starter set is created to spark their interest in science and experiments - they will be able to make a color changing volcano, a sunset in a test tube, jiggly crystal and much, much more.

Encouraging them or teaching them how to read

This reading system pen will make reading way more fun.

There are more than 40 books and games currently available for this system so there's plenty to choose from (most are about their favourite characters).

The Tag reading pen helps them out as they can tag a word (or a sentence) and it will get read out loud plus it will bring the characters to life as upon touching them the kids will hear them talk. Engaging and fun.

LeapFrog TAG Reading System

Something new the boys will love this year

While we don't like them all that much, kids think farts are funny... And if they have seen the new Despicable me animated movie they probably want their own fart gun.

Why not give them one?

Upon firing this gun will make fart sounds and will change colors! For the pranksters out there it also has a 20 second delay fart which will entertain them for days.
