Canada Quiz for Americans

Updated on January 30, 2012

Canadian Quiz for Americans (and others)

How well do our Southern Neighbours know us? Are they up for the challenge?

Here's a fairly easy quiz of 20 questions - no, there are no trick questions among them.

For the most part, I think Americans are an honest breed so let's get on with the test and see how well they do.

Questions 1 to 5 (The Real Easy Ones)

If you miss them all - oh oh ....

1. What furry mammal is closely associated with Canada?

2. There are 2 official languages in Canada - what are they?

3. How many provinces are there?

4. Is Nova Scotia next to Alberta?

5. In what province would you find Montreal?

Now - Don't Cheat. The answers are in module below.

Answers to the First 5 Questions

If you didn't get at least 1 right - Boy, are you in trouble !!!

1. The Beaver

2. English and French

3. 10

4. No way - NS is in the East and Alberta is in the West.

5. Quebec

If you didn't get at least one of them right, I'd bail out now if I were you.

Now, on to the next 5.

Questions 6 to 10

A Little Harder

6. There are 3 really big cities in Canada - Vancouver, Montreal and what is the other?

7. Is seal hunting allowed in Canada?

8. Back in our history - two countries fought for control - England and who?

9. When did we become a country - 1825, 1867, 1903, 1948 or 1969?

10. In World War II - did our navy fight in the war?

Now that wasn't so bad - was it? Answers in the next module.

Answers to Questions 6 to 10

6. Toronto

7. Sadly, the answer is Yes.

8. France

9. 1867

10. Of Course !!!

Give yourself 1 point for each correctly answered questions so far. If you happen to be a Canadian taking this quiz and have scored less than 5 so far - we are shipping you to the USA !!!

On to the final 10 - put the thinking caps on - they are getting a little more difficult !!!

The Final 10

If you get all these 10 right, then you should be a professor here in Canada (that is if we had any universities ...):

11. What are the names of 2 of the NHL teams here in Canada?

12. Where is the Plains of Abraham - in Montreal or Quebec City?

13. Name the 2 provinces which are islands?

14. Name the Capital of Nova Scotia?

15. Is marijuana legal in Canada?

16. Who was Pierre Elliott Trudeau?

17. Who are the Barenaked Ladies?

18. If you wanted the best chance to see a polar bear in the wild, what town or city would you go to?

19. Did we ever win the World Series?

20. And finally, this is a tuffy .... Who is our current Prime Minister (don't ask Bush cause I'm not sure he knows).

WOW, wasn't that fun - wonder how well you did - go to next module.

The Final Scoring

Must I Really Wear That Silly Hat?

Since the last 10 were a bit tuffer , give yourself 2 points each for those you have right. And the answers are:

11. Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians - You needed 2 of the 6 (and I forgot 2 of them myself but a friend in Germany corrected me ...duh).

12. Quebec City

13. Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland

14. Halifax

15. Yes, for medicinal purposes.

16. One of our most beloved Prime Ministers.

17. One of our good Rock Bands.

18. Churchill, Manitoba - The Polar Bear Capital of the World.

19. Yes twice (both times - the Toronto Blue Jays)

20. Stephen Harper

Teacher's Report

First, I trust that you were honest!

So, one point for correct answers to the first 10 and 2 for the last 10 .... let's see ... a perfect score would be 30.

If you scored more than 15 points - you're an Honor Student unless you are Canadian in which case you should have gotten at least 22 points.

If you scored 8 or more, I'll pass you but you need to do some more work in the future.

If you got less than 8, I must report you to Canada Customs. If you want to visit us, you'll need to retake the test or sneak across the border !!!

Please go to the next module and let us know how you did - Thanks !!!

Score Bulletin Board - Don't be Ashamed !!!

Be brave and tell us is you passed or not.- what was your score?

Do You Pass?

Sure Did !!!

Sure Did !!!

    • Tony Bonura 4 years ago from Tickfaw, Louisiana

It would seem that I know more about Canuks than I would have thought. I didn't get all of them right, but I only missed 4. I once went to Calgary in January. It was -40 there. From there I Ihen went out to an oil rig in the foothills of the Rockies where it was -60F in the daytime. This southern biy nearly froze up there, The Aurora were beautiful though,

    • goldenrulecomics 5 years ago

    • Barbara Tremblay Cipak 5 years ago from Toronto, Canada

      100 percent - no excuse, I'm Canadian :)

    • anonymous 5 years ago

From Colorado, but I thought i'd get more, but I got 17 too, with my own father being a Canadian! D: Any other topics really should know?~ I'd like to move to Ontario or Alberta someday.

    • mockingbird999 5 years ago

Got more than 8, so yep.

    • anonymous 5 years ago

I scored 21 and I consider myself lucky to do it. I'm an American.

    • anonymous 5 years ago

      17... :)

    • TeacherSerenia 6 years ago

I got 26 - but I do live in Canada - a new immigrant. I didn't know about the world series (not being a sports fan) and I forgot that Newfoundland is an island!!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

30 - but I was born and raised a Cdn - I was looking for a quiz for an Amercian friend

What, no Anne of Green Gables question?:)

BTW - Nfld is now officially Newfounland and Labrador, so you might want to rethink that question.

      Thanks.

    • anonymous 6 years ago

      dumb americans

      29/30 eh that's pretty good!

    • anonymous 6 years ago

I got 17. Not bad for an American. Of course I'm going to study up and be able to get a 30 on these types of things since I'm going to eventually be a Canadian. ;)

    • anonymous 7 years ago

Yes. I got 29 out of 30. I didn't know the polar bear question.

    • anonymous 7 years ago

Newfoundland and Labrador shouldn't count as an island province because labrador is very much part of the mainland. other than that great quiz.

    • Evelyn Saenz 7 years ago from Royalton

So excited! I got a 28! I guess it helped growing up in Vermont on the Quebec border.

    • anonymous 7 years ago

      29 and it's a great quiz....

    • anonymous 8 years ago

i got perfect but i am canadian GO CANADA

    • anonymous 8 years ago

OK==Ithis American braved the Quiz & I didn't even study for this-and I(honestly) scored 11-but I'll admit I learned some new facts and it's always a good thing to learn something new-no matter what ii is!!

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Woo Hoo 28 points! And a half for PEI!

    • anonymous 8 years ago

      er... I meant 27, dammit

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I got 17 points... by the way, the name of the band is Barenaked Ladies, only two words!

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Only got 20, but from the States, so not bad?

    • anonymous 8 years ago

      I got 25 points!!!!!!

    • julieannbrady 8 years ago

Ah, I passed by the skin of my teeth! I loved this quiz -- too bad you didn't make it in modules with radio buttons so that we could actually vote on the answers to show how many DO know the correct answers. Thanks for the fun this bright and sunny Sunday morning.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Only squeaked in with 18 (non-Canadian).

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I'm an American that has always like Canada!! I got 24!!

I missed the hockey question, because the only teams I know are the Mapleleafs and the Mighty Ducks! I should have known your island provinces(but I did know there were 10),and suprisingly I remembered Halifax! (I am much more familar with Western Canada than the East)

tw - megagag.... a really big joke???

    • LadyExpat 8 years ago

I'm a Canadian, (you know that), but I took the test for fun. I scored 29/30. I didn't know that Churchill, Manitoba was the place to see polar bears. I learned something new!!

    • anonymous 8 years ago

      I got a 16 - not too shabby

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I got 17! WOOHOO...I'm not completely DUMB...no wise comments from you ZUT!

    • anonymous 8 years ago

      22 ain't bad.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

If you scored 8 or more, I'll pass you but you need to do some more work in the future.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I got an 18. I think that's pretty good for someone from California.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Got 15 not bad for a Brit

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I passed with an 18--Very hard for we Americans--don't hear much about you on our stupid media..

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Yes! This "American" got 21 points and I live far south of Canada... in Texas near the border to Mexico.

    • AstridNicole 8 years ago

I passed. Too shy to share my score, but I passed. Astrid Nicole is still whining..."the test is tooooo hard!".

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Ok, my score was 14 but considering I am originally from Argentina is not like we have been nighbours for so long or that I have any interest in the world series... nevertheless I have to confess I have no idea how many provinces Uruguay or Brazil or Chile have, so I guess being neighbors has little to do with this :))

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I got 16 so I think we can still be neighbors, especially since we live in Alaska. I can't see Russia from my neighborhood. Bernice (My husband the trivia buff will probably want to have a go at this quiz) Thanks, I enjoyed it.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Yes I passed I got about 15 eh!

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I got 19. I live in Vancouver WA so maybe that helped

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I got a 16 and I live in the U.S.A. :) I know my neighbors, although the last part was a tad bit more difficult! :)

    • anonymous 8 years ago

      16

(have any Americans taken this yet?)

    • anonymous 8 years ago

Thanks for the quiz, very nice... I missed the Edmonton Oilers and the Ottawa Senators, though - and obviously you couldn't bear to answer question 20 yourself?!

      Take care,

      W.

      • TheJVilleKid 5 years ago

Did better than I thought I would, but probably not enough to become a citizen in your fine country! BTW, thanks for Rush and Triumph, two of the best rock bands ever!

      • anonymous 6 years ago

OMG! Not another quiz! I told you I can't read or write, it would have been nice if you could have at least been here to answer the questions for me. What?

      • anonymous 7 years ago

Oh wow..don't feel bad if you failed. I only got 11 and I LIVE IN CANADA.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

not really... 9... hehe!!!! but i don't live in canada, so i'm quite proud!!!

      • KimGiancaterino 8 years ago

It's the dunce cap for me... and I have family in Ontario!

      • Zut Moon 8 years ago

Dan Bodenstein (in Florida) said he scored 11. Wonder how many other of U Americans can beat that score. 11 is not too bad and he has said in the past that he wants to visit Nova Scotia. Take Route 95 and travel west for 1,218 miles... Just Kidding ...

      • Linda Hoxie 8 years ago from Idaho

Ashamed to admit it but I was Canada illiterate, but I did learn a lot on this lens! Thank you!

I did not get any questions correct. I was pondering the seal hunting question and I got distracted. Has anyone seen my uncle? The last time he was seen, was in a seal hunting expedition... [back in the early 1900s]
