Cardboard Cubby Houses for Kids
Kids Cubby Houses
I remember as a boy that whenever my parents bought a large household item like a fridge or television, I was more fascinated with the box it came in. That box would become a world where I could hide away and let my imagination run wild. That box became a castle, a cave, even a rocket ship.
These days as I watch my 2yo nephew do exactly what I did all those years ago I wondered if there was something available that was both a little bit more stimulating and also didn't have the sharp edges of the fridges cardboard box.
I found the perfect item, cardboard cubbies that are safe for little hands as well as ready to decorate in any style that your little person desires. Even better (as a repressed aspiring pirate myself) are the ones that come pre cut in the shape of ships etc. Ahh to be a child again!

Why is it called a Cubby?
An Australian Playhouse
A cubby house is a small place where children enjoy playing in a confined, snug area. The term cubby is derived from the term "cub" in old english and is related to the words stall, pen, cattle shed, coop or hutch. The cubby may be constructed by the children themselves and used as a place of play.
Australian author Ursula Dubosarsky's fictional "The Cubby House", highlights the search for the perfect cubby house.
Other meanings for the term cubby hole include:
South Africa - A local word for a glove compartment in a vehicle.
Zimbabwe - Glove Compartment
Barbados - Glove Compartment
USA - A group of small boxlike enclosures or compartments in which children can keep their belongings, such as at a nursery school.
England- A cupboard under the stairs.

Cardboard Cubbies For Girls
My 4yo niece wants to be one of the following: A princess, a mermaid or a fairy. I believe if it was possible she would currently choose to be a mermaid fairy princess and rule over a world populated with dolphins and puppy dogs with gills. I guess the closest we can get her to this current career choice is to provide a castle for our little Princess Elise, ruler of the mermaid puppydom 40 leagues below the sea.
It also gives me a break when I am babysitting as there are many jobs requiring a princesses attention, thus giving me those necessary quiet breaks!
Here are a few ideas for the princess in your life.
