Collecting Cigar Box Art - Old and New

Collecting old cigar box labels is becoming increasingly popular. Some of these boxes were made of wood, paper or cardboard and beautifully decorated with illustrations.

This wonderful old catalog published around 1905 shows cigar box labels from O.L. Schwenke. The catalog has been digitally scanned and can now be viewed online. The cigar label art is stunning.

      I adore vintage advertising art, posters and labels. Mucha is one of my favorite artists from the art nouveau genre.

      Quite partial to the Whitman Cigar box (but then, I'm biased.) They're all so beautiful. Excellent topic. Fruit crate labels are great too.
