Darksiders II

Updated on November 20, 2014

Great Action RPG for All Platforms

Darksiders II is the sequel to the popular action-adventure game, Darksiders. Like its predecessor, DII is developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ. It runs on all major gaming platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, PC / Windows, and the Wii U). The game was released in August 2012. Darksiders II features a larger game world (with 4 areas as large as the first game's world each), a new protagonist, and additional RPG elements like loot drops. The gameplay remains largely the same though, a fun and enjoyable mix of combat, travel, and puzzles.

Game Features

Darksiders II takes place during the same time frame as the first game, but you get to play a different protagonist: one of the brothers of War, the Horseman of the Apocalypse, Death. His aim is to prove the innocence of his brother, and he attempts to do that by bringing back the humanity. The sequel is of the same action / adventure genre, but with some welcome changes and improvements.

  • Bigger world: according to Vigil's Daniel Isaac, the Darksiders II universe will be roughly twice the size of its predecessor. It will feature several realms, each with its own over-world, and a lot of smaller dungeons.
  • Side quests: similarly, the biggest fans of the franchise will be able to sink many hours into the game as it will have numerous side-quests and dungeons to explore. Naturally, there will be a lot of DLC content available after the release, too.
  • Upgradable equipment: one of the biggest additions to the game is the loot system. That means you can actually get gear drops from enemies and equip yourself with armor that will add to your stats and perhaps even boost your abilities!
  • Skill trees: another RPG element that was added to the game is a much more complex character advancement system. As Death earns experience from kills, he will be able to unlock powerful skills from the Harbinger (warrior) and Necromancer (mage) trees.
