Disney Animators' Collection of Toddler Princesses

Updated on May 14, 2014

The Disney Princesses are Now Toddler Dolls

Disney's Award Winning collection of dolls were created with input from the Disney Animators. This collection of young Disney Princess dolls have proven to be a hit with little girls and even older girls who like to collect Disney dolls since their release in 2011.

The Disney Animators' Collection is a toddler line of Disney dolls, where the princesses are re-imagined as young girls. These dolls are the end result of almost a year's worth of work. Doll designers utilized the skills of the Disney Animators, who designed many of the original princesses, to envision younger versions of these iconic Disney characters.

I discovered the Disney Animators' Collection while at a Disney Store when my 9-year-old daughter made a beeline straight to display of Princesses.

With a collection featuring all 10 princesses‒Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana and Rapunzel‒I know what is going on her Christmas list for this year.

Involving the Disney Animators in the creation and design of these toddler princesses may have helped to bring out more of the true spirit of the princess, since Glen Keane and Mark Henn were the ones that originated six of the Disney Princess and perhaps knew their characters the best.

Already a hit with young girls, older girls and doll collectors, the Disney Animators' Collection dolls have been flying off the shelves since they became available in October 2011. Since these dolls have been named the Family Fun 2011 Toy of the Year Award, these adorable toddler princesses will be one of the hot Christmas gifts this year for little girls and collectors.

The Blogger from StitchKingdom.com describes the doll line as "one of the most gorgeous sets of dolls imaginable" while fans on Facebook are sharing the number of dolls they have already purchased from this collection.

The official Disney Princess Toddlers are available for purchase at Disney Stores, online at Disneystore.com, on Amazon and on eBay.

Update Note: We now own three of the Disney Animator's Toddlers Rapunzel, Pocahontas and Cinderella. I believe that Merida may be joining our collection soon.

Anna and Elsa as Little Girls

Frozen starts with the two little princesses from Arendelle, Anna and Elsa, playing happily as little girls, so movie watchers have an idea what these two sisters looked like as little girls. It is natural then that these little Arendelle princesses join the Disney Animator's Toddler collection.

Princess Anna wears a green satin dress with white puffed sleeves and Nordic ribbon detailing. Her red hair is styled in two high pigtails and tied with satin ribbons. Anna wears molded shoes with green and pink flowers that match the designs in her dress.

Princess Elsa wears a blue satin dress with light blue puffed sleeves and Nordic ribbon detailing. She comes with long hair that is held back with a satin headband. Elsa wears molded shoes with blue flowers that match the flowers in her dress.

My daughter wants to add these latest princesses to her collection of Animator dolls. Now that Kristoff is available they will want to add this little cutie too.

Princess Merida Joins the Animator's Collection

Princess Merida Joins the Toddler Line

With the release of Disney Pixar Brave in 2012, Princess Merida has been added to the Disney Collection of Toddler Dolls. This Toddler Princess comes without a lot of background information on the animators that was released on the earlier princesses, perhaps because the lead animators were from Pixar.

This toddler Merida has fiery red hair and a quirky, quizzical, defiant expression on her face, perhaps a demonstration of her rebellious attitude, or that she is plotting some scheme.

Toddler Merida wears a modified version of Princess Merida's formal blue gown, minus her headdress.

Missing from this Toddler Princess doll that was found with the other dolls is her companion toy. Perhaps because her companion was her very large horse, Angus, who is too big to miniaturize.

A Special Collection from the Disney Animators

Disney Animators Mark Henn and Glen Keane have been responsible for creating six of the Disney Princesses between them from Ariel to Rapunzel. The Animators worked closely with doll designers to create the Disney Animators' Collection of Toddler Princesses over a period of nearly a year.

In creating the little girl versions of these classic princesses, the animators and designers wanted to bring these beloved characters to life in the most creative and authentic way possible.

The design team took great care to get the details right on the re-imagined Toddlers from details about the dolls from their body and head shapes to their hair and costumes made more age appropriate than their original adult versions.

Glen Keane has been a Disney Animator since the 1970s. He created the original Princess Ariel, Pocahontas and Rapunzel for their films. Glen worked to bring to life the little girl versions of Snow White, Aurora, Ariel, Pocahontas and Rapunzel.

Mark Henn has been a Disney Animator since the late 1980s. He create the original Princess Jasmine, Mulan and Princess Tiana for their films. Mark worked to bring to life the little girl versions of Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan and Tiana.

Depends on if my 3 year old daughter would want one or not. She's not that into princesses, but that could change after she sees these.
