Disney Epic Mickey Wii

Updated on March 22, 2013

Disney Epic Mickey Review

The new Disney Game Epic Mickey has been exclusively designed for the Wii by Junction Point, in a way to try and revive Mickey Mouse into current times. It also celebrates the last 100 years of Disney Animation by providing animated shorts from each decade of the disney archives.

Oswald the Rabbit who was Walt Disney's first cartoon star, fades into obscurity and is replaced by his brother Mickey Mouse. He is the first character to enter the World created for fading cartoons by the Wizard Yen Sid. The World, now called Wasteland after Mickey ruins it with paint thinner, is based on the Disney World Theme Park. With Plenty of references to the famous rides and shows (Keep an eye out!)

Oswald sets himself up as ruler and leader of Wasteland and soon works with the mad doctor to try and create the robot Beetleworx, which will be able to build and improve Wasteland. Oswald (understandably) resents Mickey because of his constant popularity over many decades.

Mickey finds Yen Sid's tower, where Wasteland (model sized) sits on his table. The Wizard has finally completed the world, and goes upstairs. Mickey decides to do some painting of his own with Yen Sid's magical paint brush, but not being much of an artist, ends up creating a monster called Shadow Blot, and spills paint thinner on Wasteland in an attempt to remove the Shadow Blot. Upon hearing Yen Sid returning, Mickey runs out and back through the mirror into his bedroom before the Wizard finds him.

The Blot has now entered Wasteland and tries to take over, turning the world into a dark and sinister version of the original Wasteland. Years later, as Mickey lies in his bed, having completely forgotten about Wasteland. The Blot comes in and drags Mickey through the Mirror and into the Wasteland. He is lucky enough to grab the magic paint brush and thinner which will help him on his journey through the wasteland to get back home, but soon finds the pitiful state of the residents of Wasteland and finds he wants to help them.

Mickey now must gain the trust of Oswald so that they can join forces and defeat the evil Shadow Blot!

An awesome game!

What to expect in Disney Epic Mickey the game

This game is an adventure platforming game designed specifically for the Wii. Mickey goes on a massive journey of discovery and is cast into Wasteland, an alternate reality where Disney's forgotten characters and cartoons live - a great way to rehash and celebrate some of Disney's creations. Mickey has the power to paint and use paint thinner to change the cartoon world, which you the player decide to use. The player has the ability to change the story, and you have the power to influence the ending of the story. Each decision you make has a consequence! This is a great function, so you can play the game again and again with different endings!

behind the scenes and gameplay scenes - Epic Mickey (and I really mean teaser)

Nintendo just completed its press conference at the E3, here are the first trailers!

Collectible Pins

To Collect all of the Pins you will need to play the game all the way through at least twice one as good mickey, using paint to turn the bosses into allies and another as evil mickey who uses thinner to kill the bosses (I wouldn't be surprised if you also had to do a combination of both in another walkthrough).

Also each time you make a decision, the game will open up or close the possibility of getting a new pin. The pins are hidden throughout the levels in the game.

The possibilities of how many times you will need to complete the game using different choices are endless!

There are over 100 pins to collect, no one knows yet just how many there are!

Remember, to post which land and also if you used good or evil mickey to get the pin!

Where have you found a pin? - Share the knowledge and hopefully we can find all the pins on the game!

    Meet the Characters

The Main Characters in Disney Epic Mickey

    Oswald the lucky Rabbitt

In Disney Epic Mickey, Oswald is ruler of the Wasteland, where old and forgotten animated characters languish. He is a good choice as ruler, as he predates Mickey Mouse and was one of Disney's earliest creations. Oswald has in fact appeared in 192 animated shorts, but was discontinued after Disney lost the rights for Oswald to Universal studios. In Epic Mickey, Oswald understandably hates Mickey as he was replaced by him as Disney's Flagship creation.

    Mickey Mouse

The most well known animated character of all time, Mickey is the main Disney character and is still very popular. Mickey was created as a secondary character to Oswald, but has taken on countless animated films, shorts and computer games. In Epic Mickey, Mickey is sucked into the Wasteland and has to work through the levels to get back to his own world. Mickey also comes to realise in the game that he is in part responsible for these characters languishing in Wasteland due to his own popularity.

    Gremlin Gus

Gremlin Gus is a creation based on the Roald Dahl novel the Gremlins. Walt Disney attempted to recreate the novel into an animated film, but was unsuccessful due to copyright issues. A different version of Gremlin Gus was used in a couple of animated shorts, but poor old Gus didn't make it onto the screen. He too is languishing as an unfulfilled cartoon character who did not reach his potential

Disney Epic Mickey Gameplay - Deck Hook Battle

Gameplay footage straight from Disney Epic Mickey. Robo-Hook rides a pretty complex rail system. Can Mickey defeat the pirate captain?

Trolley Troubles - Oswald the Lucky Rabbit - 1927

Before he created Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney drew cartoons of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit for Universal Pictures and Charles Mintz. This was the first of these films which was released to theaters.

Other animators who were involved included Ub Iwerks, Hugh Harman, Friz Freleng, Les Clark, Ben Clopton, Norm Blackburn and Rollin "Ham" Hamilton.

Note that the original film was silent. The soundtrack was added when it was rereleased a few years later.

What do you think about Mickeys new adventure?
