All Things Dr Pepper

Updated on November 23, 2016

Dr Pepper Rocks!

One of the first soft drinks in the United States, Dr Pepper debuted in Waco, TX in 1885. I have never found a good way to describe what Dr Pepper tastes like, but I can assure you it not a cola and it is not prune juice.

You might notice that I don't put a period after the Dr in the Dr Pepper. While it's true that there used to be a dot after the doctor, as you can see from the picture of the bottle cap, a change in font in the 1950s forced the removal of the offending dot.

Read on for more information. If you are just here looking for t-shirts, I have some on the bottom of this lens.

The OFFICIAL Dr Pepper Store

Unfortunately, the old official store leads to a bad link, so this is the Dr Pepper Museum Store, which is just so-so. Check the categories on the right side of the page for more options: Dr Pepper Store Front. But that turns out to be a bad link sometimes, too. Here, however, is where you can get things from the Dublin Bottling Works, which is where they still make Dr Pepper with sugar: Yay! And you can always try ebay or amazon (below).

So many of you come here looking for Dr Pepper T-shirts, but there aren't that many on Amazon, which is where I would get mine. Another place to find them is Old Doc's, but they don't have pictures of them (which is strange). Of course, there is always ebay.

How much of your soda drinking is Dr Pepper drinking? - How well you tolerate other sodas.

Some people like Dr Pepper. Some people love Dr Pepper. Some people can't tell the difference between Mr Pibb and Dr Pepper (?!!?) and some people still insists it tastes like prunes. Some people drink cola instead.

A Dr Pepper Place to Visit

The Dr Pepper Museum

I haven't been here yet, because I have never been to Waco, but I'd like to go.

The Dr Pepper Museum is 18,500 square feet and offers three floors of exhibits. There is a scaled recreation of the Old Corner Drugstore (where Dr Pepper was first mixed) complete with a talking animatron of Doc Alderton (Dr Pepper creator). Bottling equipment, containers, and an interior artesian well are also featured, along with 25 years of Dr Pepper commercials. Other exhibits include soft drink marketing and advertising campaigns, as well as a recreation of a 1930s country store.

Miscellaneous

These things all have to do with Dr Pepper, but they seem to defy catagorization.

I'm sorry, I don't. You can try contacting the factory in Dublin, TX, but I've never heard of anything like that.

To GuyB. Try 254-757-1-25 or dp-info@drpeppermuseum.com. The phone number is for the museum and I imagine they are only there during the day when the museum is open, but you could email them and someone should get back to you!

Okay, I think the universe is trying to get me to start drinking Dr Pepper. First, I'm watching the BCS National Championship football game last Monday and see a GREAT commercial for Dr Pepper. It's so good I text a friend of mine who I know is watching the game to see if he saw the commercial. He did...he texted me back that it made him want to run to the store to get some Dr Pepper. Secondly, I find this lens about Dr Pepper. Before reading it, I go to the kitchen to get something to drink. I drink Diet Coke. I discover I'm out of Diet Coke. But, wait! There are some of my sister-in-law's Dr Peppers in the fridge. I get one and come back to read this lens. And then I find out all of these delightful tidbits about Dr Pepper while I'm enjoying a refreshing can of the stuff. The result of all of this: I would like to be a Pepper, too.

I've always enjoyed Dr Pepper, and enjoyed my visit here. Ice cold on a hot day is the best way to enjoy Dr Pepper, but I'm now thinking about trying it hot with a slice of lemon.

I voted other cuz I don't really drink soda at all. It isn't very healthy any kind. But if I did I would probably drink in the following order, Squirt, Dr Pepper, Tab, Orangina, Ginger ale, Pepsi.

When I was growing up in N. Dakota during football games in the winter they would make GIANT vats of HOT Dr Pepper with slices of lemon in it. It was so good. But really only if it is COLD outside.

I want to try it over icecream on one of my free days!

Don't forget that the best time to drink Dr. Pepper is at Dr. Pepper Time 10, 2 and 4 o'clock every day! I grew up drinking Dr. Pepper and had no idea what a cola drink was, LOL. I love it over ice with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice right on top. Thanks for the memories!
