Fun Games for 12 Year Old Girls

Updated on November 16, 2014

12 Year Old Games for Girls

Looking for some games for girls? I have a lot of fun ones here including board, Wii and Nintendo DS.

Shopping for children this age can be a bit challenging as their maturity levels differ from person to person. While some may still be quite kid like, others have a much more mature nature.

I've tried to assemble a group that will cover different interests with my own daughter helping me to pick the best. She loves to play and we get to spend some great quality time hanging out.

Scene It Games

Scene It? is a popular dvd game series which shows clips from different TV shows and movies and players have to answer questions about what they've seen. Sometimes it's a group question, while other times it's a single player question.

The game comes in numerous versions. I'm going to spotlight a few favorites for 12 year old girls. We have the following three and they are all hits in our home. However, many additional editions exist.

If you're interested in any others, just click on any of the games and you'll be taken to Amazon where you can do your own search.

We're huge Disney fans and my daughter loves this game. It contains both classic and current Disney movies through Tangled. Even my older kids love it.

Harry Potter-The Complete Cinematic Journey

Harry Potter has always been popular in my home and this Scene It? game covers the whole saga, although it's limited when it comes to Deathly Hallows Part 2. With that said, this game is loads of fun for anyone who loves the Harry Potter movies.

My girls love Twilight. Although this is called Twilight Saga Deluxe, it only covers the Twilight movies through Eclipse. However, it's a great game for girls who love the Twilight series. As a mom, it's a great way to spend some fun time with my girls.

Looking for some family games?

Apples to Apples Board Game

Mattel Apples to Apples Party Box The Game of Crazy Combinations
Mattel Apples to Apples Party Box The Game of Crazy Combinations

We love this game in our house. You are given cards and have to try to match up the best adjective for a noun you are holding in your hand. It could be a person, object or location. The match ups can be so funny and then the winning match up is picked and the game continues. For example, you might have a card that says smelly. You would match it up with a card in your hand such as my bedroom, skunk, school or whatever other card you are holding.

Classic Clue Game

I'm sure many of us grew up with this game and it's just as popular as ever. Girls will have fun trying to collect the clues and solve this who done it mystery. With durable pieces, girls can work their minds at the same time as playing.

Games for Girls

You're probably aware of how beneficial games can be for younger kids, but do you know they are still beneficial to 12 year olds?

Even at this age they can help with critical thinking and with hand and eye coordination. They can also help with memory skills, which can help improve school work.

If you like themed games, check out the choices below from eBay.

Hopefully, you'll see some great deals here.

Monster High Share or Scare

The Monster High Share or Scare game is particularly fun when you get a group of girls together. There are lots of fun challenges and creepy things to do, but prepare yourself for lots of loud laughter.

Ready for some crazy fun?

Bop It XT

Bop It XT

What I love about this game is that it can be played with someone else or alone. It's fast paced with lights and sounds and players have to follow the commands to keep the game going. Warning though, you'll probably be tempted to try it yourself. I know I did.

Twister Dance

Here's a fun twist, (no pun intended,) on a popular game. Follow the lights to learn the newest dances while listening to music. My girls have always loved to dance and this doesn't disappoint.

Look for deals on eBay. The site often has some great prices.

These are fun when friends come over.

Bratz Passion for Fun Game

If the girl you're buying for likes Bratz and still enjoys dress up games, then she should love this. The goal of the game is to go into the other girls closets and put together the perfect outfit for a fun filled night out.

Hedbanz Game

As you can see by the box, players wear cards on their heads, then ask as a series of yes or no questions to try to figure out what the card is. This who am I game is really a hit for the entire family.

If you have a Wii, the Just Dance games are quite a hit at this age.

Just Dance 4

Just Dance 4 - Nintendo Wii

This is the latest in the Just Dance series. Girls can sing along while dancing. It's such great exercise. In this version, players can pick which dancer they want to be. The Just Dance game gets played in my house almost everyday. There are 40 tracks of music to pick form. Just click on the game to see a complete listing.

Just Dance Disney Party

Is the girl a Disney fan? This is a fun version of Just Dance that is filled with Disney songs. Some are from Disney movies, while others are from popular songs from Disney Channel TV shows like Wizards of Waverly Place. My 12 year old loves it. As in the Just Dance version above, click on the game for a complete list of songs.

Why not have a family game night?

5 Second Rule

5 Second Rule - Just Spit it Out!
5 Second Rule - Just Spit it Out!

This is a fast paced trivia game in which you have to name three items in a category in five seconds. You need to think quickly as five seconds goes quickly. What's great about the game is you'll be amazed at how many funny answers come out.

The Game of Life

The Game of Life shown here is the classic game that is so known and loved. I mention this because an updated version came out and many people were disappointed as it was not the same as the original. This is fun for kids to play together or you can get the whole family involved for some family fun.

Here's a fun card game.

Uno Card Game

Uno is an enjoyable card game that is good for all ages. Be the first to get rid of all of your cards and win. This is one of my daughter's favorite games. What makes it even better is the Amazon price!

Jenga Game

Hasbro Game - Jenga

This is a cool stacking game. Each turn you have to remove one of the lower blocks and then place it on top without letting the tower fall over. Being that the blocks are made of wood, the game is very durable. There's always lots of noise and laughter when the tower falls over at my house.

Nintendo DS

Hand held system games, like for the DS, are still quite popular for girls. Here are some particularly popular ones.

DS Games for Girls

Frozen: Olaf's Quest - Nintendo DS
Frozen: Olaf's Quest - Nintendo DS

Frozen was a gigantic hit, especially with girls this age. This game is centered around Olaf, the lovable snowman from the movie, and takes him across 60 fun and imaginative levels of game play.

Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends
Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends

This is a very cute game. Players get their own puppies which they need to train and take care of. There's lots of competitions throughout the game and players can also buy items for their puppy. (This is with play money within the game.) Both my girls have had this and loved it.

More fun DS Games

Monster High: Ghoul Spirit - Nintendo DS

Girls can create their own girl and attend Monster High where they perform tasks and build up their ghoulish reputations. It's a very imaginative game that my daughter hates to put down.

Mario Kart DS
Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart 7 is an action packed racing game in which you never know what will happen next. This isn't more of a girl game, but a great game for both boys and girls. The kids have always loved the Mario games and this is their favorite.

Oh my goodness, I think the only games we played when I was 12 were Monopoly, checkers and Sorry. You have great ideas, though!

@Camden1: Love Harry Potter Clue. Didn't know about the electronic version of Apples to Apples, but this is good to know, as we love this game.

It's way too long since I was 12 for me to remember, but my daughter currently likes Life (the electronic edition), Apples to Apples, and Harry Potter Clue.

My daughter enjoyed playing board games when she was a teenager including the Life Game. These choices will be very helpful when shopping for a 12 year old girl. :)
