Create Doll Furniture for your American Girl Doll

You can expand playtime for your child and her doll by creating a doll-sized room. Perhaps her own bedroom, fancy closet, etc. You are only limited by your imagination. Many people would like the fun and satisfaction of building furniture or creating furniture accessories for their American Girl or other 18 inch doll. Making doll furniture could involve everyone in the family, from Dad in his workshop, mom in the sewing room, and you little girl "decorating" a room. There are many resources available to the you. I hope after you view these links, you will be inspired to explore more and create your own doll furniture and accessories. And for those of you that are not so "crafty", I've enclosed links at the end of my lens to some special shops selling doll furniture.

Books - Building Doll Funiture

Here are two books for building doll furniture for your American Girl Doll (or other 18 inch doll). The books include layouts and detailed instructions. The reviews for these books indicate that they are for the experienced woodworker with a good work shop.

Here is the review for the above book (Making Furniture for American Girl Dolls and Other 18 Inch Dolls -3rd Edition) voted "most helpful" by Amazon buyers: I really like this book. Great patterns and easy to follow text for making high quality furniture that can be past on to future generations. If you do not have a well equipped shop, don't bother buying this book.

Be Inspired by Queen Mary's Dollhouse

Dream a little!! I love Queen Mary's Dollhouse. This book may offer inspiration to you as you build "living spaces" for your American Girl Doll. Queen Mary's Dolls' House is a doll's house built in the early 1920s, completed in 1924, for Queen Mary, the wife of King George V. It showcased the very finest and most modern goods of the period. Later the dolls' house was put on display to raise funds for the Queen's charities. It was originally exhibited at the British Empire Exhibition, 1924-1925, and is now on display in Windsor Castle, at Windsor, Berkshire, England, as a tourist attraction, especially to people with an interest in miniature houses and furniture.

Shopping for Doll Furniture

You can shop at American Girl Stores and on Ebay for 18 inch doll furniture. But if you can't find your special item there, at a price you want to pay, look at these sites. And don't forget many woodworkers sell their handmade furniture on Etsy.
