@ninakreativa: Actually, being fully immersed in a virtual world is very good for mental health. It makes the brain more active and science has even made note that people that play virtual games like MMOs have a larger and more vibrant imagination as well as being able to control their dreams more than the average person.

As for physical health, if you have kids that play, get them to take a 15min-1 hour break every so often and go play or do something physical. I spent a lot of time on MMOs and other games, but im not a child and do labor work for a living. =)

I dunno, I'm a bit partial for Nuvera Online. I especially like that it's for adults only, but not in a sleezy sense.

I like all these games ive tried all of them im not to keen on IMVU you can't even walk on it.There is cool because you can do all kinds of cool things like fly and race and stuff Twintiy is ok but it takes a long time to load and blue mars is fun but when they look at you it's a little creepy.

I can not help but point out, Second Life, by definition is not a "Game", but a 3D virtual world. and IMVU is simply a 3D chat program, nothing more. you can not even walk around. As far as what of the "Virtual World" genre is the best, I would say progressively, SL is getting there, though the management team "Linden Labs" seems to do a horrible job even to this day with "Managing" things and improving on it. IMVU is nice as far as chat programs go mind you.

To me , Twinity is by the moment the best virtual world. Why... even as a beta has more quality that others. And is not so expensive as S.L.

If you like to create content with Sketchup , Twinity is the best.

Great list! I used to be a member of Twinity (actually, from when it first started), but became disappointed when it became a generic metaverse. It really had the potential to be something different with its attempt to mirror the real world, but everyone wanted it to be Second Life 2.0 so that's what it became.

I also used to be a member of There. That launched at the same time as SL but never became as popular. It's one of the more original virtual worlds because it's made in the style of an animated cartoon.

AW has been around forever... I'm shocked it's still here! I think it is the oldest virtual world on the net!

I don't play games, but I like your lens, well done! I've heard about Second Life, but do not know any other games. I think that people can be quickly lost in virtual worlds, which is not good for mental and physical health.

@CozyKitty: Second Life is still free (and lots of fun). On IMVU you only get money that can be used in-game, but depending on what you sell you may make the premium currency (IMVU Credits) which usually costs money, they just can't be cashed out.

I have heard about Second Life but never of any similar games. So this list is pretty impressive to me. It's good to know we have so many 'second chances':)

The only one i've ever heard of is imvu. I like the idea of making your own products - if people buy them, do you make money?

I still wanna try second life - is it still free? You have so many great games here, i'll have to come back and try some of them! :)
