2GB SD Card
These go for about $25-$30 and carry plenty of space. In addition to this, you can always erase it if you wanted to and then simply reuse it.
Batteries and Chargers - Keep your WiiMotes alive!
Because the Wii uses wireless controllers, this also means that it requires the use of batteries. Now, instead of purchasing batteries that die and then need to be thrown away, it's best to simply buy rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. This will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Play Your Old GameCube Games
Memory cards for Nintendo GameCube.
The Wii is actually backwards compatible with GameCube software titles. In order to support the software titles, you can purchase additional memory cards which will allow you to save your games. This is also a great money saver considering that GameCube games can be found for quite cheap. You can probably find these memory cards for around $25 or less.
Controllers for the GameCube.
As mentioned before, the Wii is backwards compatible with the GameCube. That being said, in order to play the GameCube software titles, you can not use a Wii controller, but a GameCube one instead. It is possible to use your existing GameCube controllers, but if you're controllers are anything like mine, they're pretty busted up. In that case, you can purchase a new one for about $25. For a couple dollars more, you can get a wireless Nintendo wave bird controller.
The Classic Controller is also ideal for playing some Wii game, such as Mario Kart.
2000 Wii Points
Wii Points allow you to purchase Wii virtual consoles games. This is done by going to the Wii shop channel to purchase the software titles through the Internet. Once done, the games will be downloaded directly to your Wii. In addition to the Wii points, you can also use your credit card to purchase software titles through the virtual console.
