Jigsaw Puzzles- My Relaxing Hobby

Updated on August 4, 2014

You Might Say My Hobby Is Puzzling!

Ever since I was a teenager, I have loved putting together jigsaw puzzles, and the bigger the better. Give me a 2500 piece landscape and I'll be busy as a bee for a few weeks.

The best jigsaw puzzles are the nice heavy duty types that are thick and chunky. I don't have to worry about them falling apart when moving a few pieces around or bending in half. These are definitely the quality puzzles that I love so much and I will even put them together over and over.

Now on occasion I will buy a few smaller puzzles from the dollar store which gives me more to work on, even if they are a bit flimsy, but totally relaxing. Let's just say, I love puzzles of any kind.

Puzzles Are My Way To Relax - I prefer putting together a puzzle over watching TV

For me, working on a jigsaw puzzle is one of the most relaxing activities I can do. I am not rushed and can take my time, as much time as I like. There are no deadlines, dates or closing times.

If I want to fit in three puzzle pieces or 100, it is my choice. Maybe I just want to stare at the beautiful colors and pieces of the puzzle, I can do that too. Jigsaw puzzles are no worries, no stress and all relaxation. I love them!

My Secret

Most people that visit my home have no idea that I am a hopeless jigsaw puzzle fanatic. My tables are tidy. There are no boxes or lids laying around and no sight of even just one puzzle piece.

Would you like to know my secret?

Well, only a few people know this, but I hide my puzzles in progress. Yes, that's right, my puzzles are nowhere to be seen. I work on them at my kitchen table but they are out of sight when I am done.

A handy dandy tablecloth is my puzzle hiding cover and I store the box in the pantry. There I said it.

No more secrets here!

Back in high school I would look around for puzzles that caught my eye and then use them as a way to relax after school.

Puzzles, Sudoku, Crosswords etc are all nice creative hobbies. Though I do not do jigsaw puzzles or crosswords anymore, I still love to solve Sudoku. It is cool the way you hide the puzzles in progress at your home.

I've done a couple of 1000 piece puzzles and really enjoyed them. It's definitely something I would want to spend more time doing when I retire (not within the next 20 years!) Some of them are easier than others. I prefer the easier ones - the more challenging ones tend to frustrate me. I once bought a lenticular puzzle but I had to give it up early on as I just couldn't get on with it. I like the ones that glow in the dark. I've completed one of the solar system and glued it together to hang on the wall. It looks spectacular once the lights are turned off at night. Great lens - I'm sure it will inspire lots of people to try this hobby.

Another puzzle addict here. I don't often start them though cuz I know that I will put off other more important things if the puzzle is in progress.

Beautiful puzzles listed here. I love puzzles too, it's a form of meditation almost. I'm so focused yet so relaxed. I'm glad someone else feels the same way.

Fun lens! I LOVE jigsaw puzzles too! Ravensburger, comic relief, White Mountain. Ah, makes me want to start one right now! Good hiding place for your puzzles!
