Kid's Teepee: A Tent Just For Kids

A Kid's Teepee Gives Kids Their Own Space

A kid's teepee gives kids their own space. What's more fun than playing in your own teepee tent?

These play tents are just for kids. They're a place for kids to read, play and dream. You can even take a teepee along to grandma's house and on family camping trips.

A kids teepee can be an indoor or outdoor playhouse. You can make your own teepee and create any style you want. Or you can buy one, as they are available in many colors and designs. Get one or create your own in black and red with a skull image and you have a pirate teepee. For a little girl, create a teepee with yards of soft, pretty fabric.

A kids teepee that you buy ready-made is portable. Just close it up and take it over to Grandma's house so your kids have a place to play during their visit. Take it along when your family goes camping. Your children will have their own teepee play tent set up next to your tent or RV where they too can "camp."

Set up a kids teepee in your backyard. Add outdoor toys, like kids camping gear, kid flashlights, binoculars and a pretend camp stove, and your kids can camp out in the backyard where you can keep an eye on them.

Whether it's for girls or boys, a kids teepee gives kids their own space.

Have your kids ever played in a teepee?

Kids Outdoor Teepees

(Of course, these teepees can be used indoors as well.)

Kids Outdoor Teepees: Summer Fun

What a great way to spend a lovely summer day. Set up a kids teepee in the backyard or any grassy spot and watch how they take to it. It's a magnet for kids. Think of them having their own place to dream, to read, to color, to create. It's a natural place for them to gather with friends, to play and enjoy life.

A kids teepee can be a cozy place. Kids will decorate the inside with things that interest them. A few fluffy pillows, a rug and a book are all some need to spend the day in delight. Little girls may want to have a tea party in their teepee, complete with stuffed animals and a dainty tea set. Little boys may want to play pirate or cowboys and Indians, and they'll have costumes and props to make them feel like Blackbeard or Crazy Horse.

Nylon or canvas teepees are water resistant. If your outdoor kids teepee is made of quilts, gauze or any other fabric, you'll want to make sure to bring it in if it rains. And the fabric you use to make your teepee should be washable so it can be hosed off.

Kids Indoor Teepees: Snuggly Fun

Look how adorable an indoor kids teepee can be! The advantage of having a teepee indoors is that you can use any material and any embellishments and the weather will not ruin it. The teepee can stay up as long as you want, and your kids can always have a place of their own, year 'round.

Whether in a bedroom, nursery, office, or basement, the indoor kids teepee offers hours of fun. Your little ones may even nap inside their teepee. Filled with soft pillows and favorite stuffed animals, a teepee is a place for them to curl up. They can play quietly in your office as you keep an eye on them. You'll be able to enjoy more hours with your child if they pitch their tent in your home office.

A kids teepee can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. A little girl's feminine bedroom is the perfect place for a teepee fit for a princess, made of lush fabric in pretty pastels. It's a great place for a pretend tea party, too, so set up a tiny table and chairs inside for her "guests." Your kids can enjoy reading and drawing in their cozy little spaceā€¦ and maybe even doing homework won't seem so bad when it's done in a kids teepee!

Kids Teepees You Can Decorate

You can get a tepee all ready to play in, but for the creative child, get them a plain canvas teepee to decorate. They can paint their own designs on it and make it a very personal space for themselves.

These teepees are made of water repellant and fire resistant cotton canvas. They're easy to decorate with oil based paint, permanent latex paints or water based paints.

You may be surprised at what your child can do with a blank canvas..

Backyard Camping in a Kids Teepee

Camp Outside in a Kids Teepee

Your kids may want to camp outside in the teepee. If they camp in the backyard, you can keep an eye on them and yet they can feel independent. Give them their own camping gear and they will have a great time!

Another great idea is to take their outdoor teepee tent along when your family goes camping. You set up your own tent or park your RV, and your kids can set up their teepee next to it. They'll have a place to play and give mom and dad a breather, too.

Make Your Own Kids Teepee

For a unique kids teepee, sew your own!

If you are an experienced seamstress, you are probably able to create a teepee by figuring out how each panel of fabric should be measured, cut and sewn together. But if you are more comfortable following a pattern, there are sewing patterns that will guide you in making a kids teepee.

By making your own teepee, you and your child can pick out the material together, choosing something just right for that child. You can even make a teepee using sheets, which are available in many colors and patterns. Perhaps you'll want to add a border of a different pattern along the bottom of your teepee. The only other thing you'll need are poles, usually PVC pipes tall enough for the overall height of the teepee. And while you're choosing fabric for the teepee tent, think about getting enough fabric to make complementary pillows, cushions and flooring... maybe even a little welcome mat!

And don't forget your furry friends! Cats love to crawl into boxes, and making a teepee for your pet gives them a place they feel safe in. Find a cute animal-print fabric suitable for your pet so they will have their own unique teepee, too.

To make your own kids teepee, it's helpful to have a pattern.

If you want to make your own kids teepee, this Butterick pattern includes the instructions to make a tepee 80" high overall. In addition to material, it requires six 1" diameter PVC pipes 84" long.

Technically, my daughter never played in a teepee. But she well knew the fun of it. She and her friends would bring chairs into her bedroom and drape blankets over it, thereby creating their own "houses." It was wonderful.

Somehow being inside a teepee feels so exciting and adventurous. My kids don't have one but the like to eat, read and play in their little plastic tent.

Very nice, I may make one for my kids and I think they will definitely like it since they like to use the blanket to make a shelter like tent on the bed.

Great fun. When we were kids, we draped a blanket over a chair or two to form a tent. Mom probably wished we had a teepee like one of these.

I made a page about kid's reading corners. A teepee is a natural for that use.
