LEGO Legends of Chima Story

Updated on April 18, 2013

What is the LEGO Legends of Chima story?

What is the LEGO Legends of Chima story? Let's take a look at the information we have about the back story for the big new LEGO theme for 2013.

On this page I'll report the latest information that we have about the story behind LEGO Chima. We know that we're getting a Cartoon Network TV series, a 4D Movie Xperience at LEGOLAND Parks and lots of LEGO Chima books, so there's going to be a rich story to go with the LEGO Legends of Chima Sets.

I'm Mum to two boys aged 4 and 6 who absolutely love Ninjago and are really looking forward to Legends of Chima. They have lots of questions about the theme which I'll try and answer here.

Welcome to the Kingdom of CHIMA!

The title for the LEGO Chima teaser site is "Welcome to the Kingdom of CHIMA!" so we know that CHIMA is a place and is ruled as a Kingdom. (Each of the tribes seems to have it's own royal family, more on that later.)

The characters in Chima are intelligent animal-like creatures that stand on two legs as if animals have evolved into a human-like form.

LEGO CHIMA Story Video

We learn that the tribes of Chima used to live peacefully. Then they begin to fight for the control of CHI.

What is CHI?

In Legends of Chima

CHI is a powerful energy source that the tribes of CHIMA are battling over.

CHI powers CHI weapons in Legends of Chima. In a teaser video we find out that CHI orbs placed on the chest are an energy source and we can see this in the picture above where an electricity-like force come's from the blue circle on Laval Lion's chest to power his weapon and Speedor.

CHI is also the name given to the small blue crystals or gems that appear in LEGO CHIMA. Large blue CHI Orbs (spheres) appear in some sets and the animal warriors must try to capture them.

The LEGO Chima 4D movie experience mentions a "a battle for CHI between the Laval the Lion Prince, and Cragger the Crocodile Prince."

Childhood Friends Laval and Cragger

The two main characters in LEGO Legends of CHIMA were childhood friends - Laval the Lion and Cragger the Croc. But now they are enemies fighting over CHI. It seems that the disagreement started with a misunderstanding and has had serious consequences for the Kingdom of CHIMA. source

The Animal Tribes of Chima

We can see from the LEGO Legends of Chima sets that there are five animal tribes of Chima in the initial wave, and probably more in future (there's a hint that we'll see a Gorilla tribe on the Chima teaser site):

  1. Lion
  2. Wolf
  3. Croc (Crocodile)
  4. Eagle
  5. Raven
  6. Gorilla

Chima Tribe Leaders

Kings, Queens, Princes

The animal tribes of Chima have a monarchy of royal leaders. From what I can tell, each tribe has an older King or Queen and a young warrior leader. The young warrior leaders are the main characters.

Here are the members of the royal families that we know about so far:

King Crominus of the Croc Tribe - source: LEGO Legends of Chima 70103: Boulder Bowling set description

Eagle Queen Ewald - source 70011 Eagle's Castle set.

Lion King? - appears in CHIMA Story video

CHIMA Warrior Leaders

We have been given CHIMA teaser videos for four main young warrior characters who seem to be leaders:

Laval the Warrior Prince of the Lion Tribe - source: video on LEGO Chima teaser site on 6th December 2012. Laval is clearly one of the central characters in The Legends of Chima.

Croc Prince Cragger - source LEGO Legends of Chima 70006: Cragger's Command Ship set description.

Eris the Eagle

Worriz the Wolf

LEGO CHIMA: Good Versus Bad

Some of the LEGO CHIMA animal tribes are good, and others bad. They are battling each other to control the power of CHI.

Toy News Dec 2012 confirms in an interview with a LEGO senior brand manager that the Lion, Eagle and Gorilla tribes are good and the Wolf, Crocodile and Raven tribes are bad.

These German language books have the translated titles 'LEGO Legends of Chima: Lions against crocodiles' and 'LEGO Legends of Chima: Eagles against Wolves'.

LEGO Chima Story Books

It looks like we'll be getting lots of LEGO Chima books to fill in the backstory of the Kingdom of Chima. We don't have much info on the content of the books yet but I've gathered what we do know here:

LEGO Chima Books | Legends of Chima
Let's take a look at the LEGO Legends of Chima books that are being published to tie in with this big new LEGO theme for 2013. We are getting Legends of Chim...

LEGO Chima TV Show

There's a LEGO Legends of Chima TV show on Cartoon Network in 2013. The trailer has already been aired.

The quote below tells us that CHI orbs can be placed in the chest of a character to give them a special power. Interesting.

You shall take an orb of CHI, place it in your chest and feel the power of nature itself

Mount Cavora

Mount Cavora is a location in the Kingdom of CHIMA. It's mentions in LEGO CHIMA takes over Hamley - a UK toy store have build a huge LEGO CHIMA display which features Mount Cavora.

Is this the floating mountain with the animal heads carved into in which features on the LEGO CHIMA teaser site?

Thanks for Visiting
