Lord of the Rings Dolls & Action Figures

Updated on August 10, 2017

A Variety of Lord of the Rings Dolls & Action Figures

Even before Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy came out, toy makers have been creating character dolls and action figures of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved characters for years. However, with the advent of "The Lord of the Rings" and The Hobbit" movies, these dolls have been brought to a whole new level by creating facial casts based upon the movie actors and actresses.

Many companies have issued The Lord of the Rings dolls and action figures, including Mattel, ToyBiz, Madame Alexander, Frnklin Mint, Dragon in Dreams and the Robert Tonner Doll Company. Some of them rank among the most beautiful dolls I have seen

This lens is devoted to various "Lord of the Rings" dolls, action figures and collectibles. I will continue adding more Lord of the Rings and Hobbit dolls and action figures as I discover them.

Let us know which are your favorite dolls in the comments below!

Mattel Lord of the Rings Barbie & Ken Dolls

Starting with the Lord of the Rings Barbie and Ken as Arwen and Aragorn coronation set released in 2003, Mattel issued four Barbie dolls wearing recreations of the outfits which the movie characters wore.

The Mattel dolls are 11 1/2" - 12" tall and feature rooted hair and unique face sculpts to capture their characters.

More about the Mattel Lord of the Rings Dolls:

Mattel Lord of the Rings dolls: Aragorn, Arwen, Legolas & Galadriel

One of the nicest of the Lord of the Rings doll sets was made by Mattel and consists of Barbie and Ken figures dressed as characters from the Lord of the Rings trilogy: Aragorn, Arwen, Legolas and Galadriel.

Barbie doll as Galadriel from 'The Lord of the Rings' - harbinger of new Tonner Galadriel figure

Issued in 2004, this beautiful doll was part of Mattel's Lord of the Rings doll collection. Galadriel was an immediately a hit with collectors and is no longer available from Mattel.

Lord of the Rings dolls: Aragorn, Arwen, Legolas & Galadriel dolls by ToyBiz & Mattel

In 2001, ToyBiz - a division of Marvel Enterprises, finally released a doll of Arwen, and the following year a ToyBiz Galadriel was released.

Arwen Evenstar by Robert Tonner

I was not impressed by photos of this doll, and I waited more than 1 year to finally order one. I was so happy I splurged and finally bought Arwen! From some angles she looks almost exactly like Arwen did in the movie. This doll is much prettier "in person" than her photos show. The dress is prettier than the photos show, too. with her hair down, the elf ears do not show at all, so as Liv Tyler, the Arwen doll is also good for redressing.

Strider the Ranger - Aragorn, son of Arathorn

Arwen Evenstar - Daughter or Elrond, of the House of Rivendell

Strider the Ranger by Robert Tonner

The promo photos of Strider do not do the doll justice, and I waited until after I purchased my Arwen doll to buy Strider. I was just as happy with the Strider doll as I was Arwen. Although his likeness is not quite as good a match to Viggo Mortensen as Arwen's is to Liv Tyler, it is still much better than the photos show, and is close enough to capture the character. His clothes are extremely well done and accessorized nicely! This is definitely a Lord of the Rings doll worth adding to any collection.

Robert Tonner Lord of the Rings Dolls

The 16" - 18" Lord of the Rings collectible dolls crafted by the Robert Tonner Doll Company include some of the prettiest dolls ever made.

All four dolls capture the look of their characters, but the lovely Arwen and exquisite Galadriel dolls are especially beautiful. The Galadriel doll especially deserves kudos for both the doll and her gorgeous gown.

Tonner Doll Company Lord of the Rings dolls

The Robert Tonner Doll Company has unveiled the upcoming Lord of the Rings dolls, a new collection of character figures for 2010.

Tonner Doll Company adds Galadriel figure to Lord of the Rings doll collection

Using a Cate Blanchett head sculpt with the 16" Tyler body, this doll is a remarkable likeness of Cate Blanchett/Galadriel with her blue eyes, cameo skintone, pointed Elvish ears and cascading blond hair.

Life in the Castle - a look at some medieval Tonner dolls

The Robert Tonner Doll Company has come out with some exquisite medieval dolls and costumes in recent years including the LOTR dolls,

Galadriel - Lady of Lothlorien

I wanted this doll from the moment I saw her, because unlike Arwen and Strider, Gladrien's promo photos do the doll justice. The is the doll that kept me coming back, checking on the Tonner Lord of the Rings dolls for over a year and ultimately deciding to buy them, because her picture captured the look and feel of Cate Blanchett as Galadriel.

Legolas Greenleaf - Elf Prince of Mirkwood

Legolas by Robert Tonner

The Robert Tonner Legolas Greenleaf doll features intricate detail on his fabulous costume. The doll bears a close likeness to the character Legolas but the costume detail really makes this doll beautiful.

Dragons in Dreams Lord of the Rings Action Figures

The Dragons in Dreams action figures, issued in blue boxes with "The Lord of the Rings" logo, were made for the Asian market and include: Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Gandalf, and Legolas.

While the DID figures are well done, they lack the finesse of the Mattel and Tonner dolls, but what they lack in elegance, they make up for in accessories! These figures come with an excellent array of accessory pieces including jewelry, belts, and weapons.
