My Favorite LOTR Board Game

I'm a huge fan of all things Lord of the Rings! There are so many fun, adventurous, beautifully rendered games available that I can geek out to my heart's content.

I remember when the first movie, The Fellowship of the Ring, arrived in theaters. I had read the Trilogy as a young child and fell in love with the story. But it wasn't until I saw that first movie that I become completely engulfed in the story and the fantasy. I had never experienced such a masterpiece of cinematography and story telling.

These movies are truly...epic.

So its just fun to keep experiencing these stories and characters through games. Whether that's a trivia game, a puzzle or a video game, its a wonderful way to share the love of LOTR with family, friends and yes, yourself!

The Trilogy...

The ultimate trivia much do you really know about the Trilogy?

Trivial Pursuit: The Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy Collector's Edition
Trivial Pursuit: The Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy Collector's Edition

Trivial Pursuit might be my favorite board game of all time. I have so many wonderful childhood memories of playing with family.

This LOTR themed Trivial Pursuit is perfect for trivia lovers and Middle Earth lovers alike.

You get a ring replica, collectible pewter game pieces, and a beautifully decorated game board with a map of Middle-Earth.

You can test your knowledge with 1,800 questions! There are questions from the extended versions of the films so even the most hard-core of fans can be challenged. There's even a category on making the film and behind-the-scenes trivia.

This game is perfect for 2 to 4 players or for teams.

Oh and wouldn't this make a great gift?

Keep in mind that this trivia game is geared towards the film trilogy. If you are only a die-hard Tolkien buff, then you may find the questions lacking. This game is definitely more for the movie lovers.

Did you know...

Legolas Greenleaf isn't just a hunk. He's son of the King of the Woodland Realm of Northern Mirkwood. And he can shoot a longbow like nobody's business. (I love you Orlando Bloom!)

My favorite part of the Fellowship of the Ring is in one of the battle scenes where Legolas just shoots arrow after arrow after arrow at an almost supernatural speed. Love it!

Books, movies, or both?

It seems like you either loved reading the books more than watching the movies or just the opposite! My mom just loved reading all the books and says they were better than the movies.

Whereas I just loved the movies....the special effects and the gorgeousness of how can you go wrong?

What say you...

And just for fun, here's some more LOTR trivia...

Did you know...

Frodo Baggins is the heir of Bilbo Baggins (adopted heir) and they share the same birthday.

Even though Frodo called Bilbo his uncle, they were actually cousins.

Did you know...

Aragorn, a Ranger of the North, is heir to the thrones of Gondor and Arnor.

His love for elf Arwen is portrayed so beautifully in The Fellowship of the Ring and is one of the reasons why the Fellowship is my favorite part of the Trilogy. Liv Tyler is so magnificent as Arwen.

What if trivia isn't your thing?

My 2 other favorite LOTR board games...

Monopoly: Lord of The Rings Collectors Edition

I love Monopoly and I love LOTR - put them together and what do you have? The most amazing Saturday night ever! (I'm proud to be kinda nerdy, remember?)

This special edition Monopoly board game lets you trade, buy or sell territories from Middle Earth (awesome!)

This edition also comes with 6 collectible tokens.

Risk The Lord Of The Rings 'The Middle-earth Conquest'

My favorite part about this board game is that the game board - which is super detailed and beautifully rendered - was drawn by one of the cartographers from the movie. Awesome huh?

You also get a replica ring which is made of a gold-tone pewter.

And in classic Risk fashion you get a TON of game pieces.

Finally, I must say a few words regarding the images on this page. The gorgeous images you see are actual drawings and paintings from the very talented artist, Thammasak Aueragsakul. You can see more amazing images on this artist's deviantART page.

I love watching LOTR outtakes and bloopers! So I'll leave you with this...
