Recently Mattel agreed to manufacture a hairless doll that will have hair accessories like scarves, wigs and hats. She will not be go on sale but will donated to children's hospitals. This is wonderful news as it will give young children who have lost their hair though cancer treatment, Alopecia and Trichotillomania a doll that they can identify with. Hopefully the company will start to sell them as well

  1. There are probably many reasons why Barbie dolls appeal to children of all ages and even adults. They make great presents for young children and many people continue to collect them even as adults.
  2. One of the reasons why Barbie is so popular has to be the fact that she has a whole personality that makes her seem real to her adoring fans. According to her official biography (yes she has one) she is one of 6 children having 4 sisters and 1 brother. Her on and off boyfriend is Ken (they had a brief split in 2004 but the word on the grapevine is that they have reconciled). She has had an array of pets including, horses, pandas, parrots, dogs and ponies. Her elaborate career has seen her be a model, fire fighter, cowgirl, police officer and an American Idol winner.
  3. The other reason has got to be the fact that there seems to be a Barbie to cater for every occasion and preference. She has been a blond, brunette and red haired Barbie was introduced in 1961. She went international in with the introduction of Italian Barbie. Black Barbie and Hispanic barbie were first introduced in 1980.
  4. The other reason why Barbie dolls are so popular are the attention to detail that the dolls are made with. Each doll seems to be specially made and it is hard to resist the exquisite accessories that are available for her including dresses, shoes, bags and jewellery.

She has had the privilege of having notable designers make dresses for her including; Calvin Klein, Versace and Gucci

Monster High Venus McFlyttap Doll

This is another popular line of dolls released by mattel in 2010.It has become very popular with an interactive website, episodes of the minster high series and books that were written by Lissi Harrison.

Basically the monster high dolls are inspired by monster and horror movies. Monster high is a school whose pupils are all children of famous monsters from the book and film industry for example Medusa, The mummy, and Frankenstein's monster.

The dolls all have very different characteristics which are very evident in how they dress .The fact that these dolls have become very popular might come as a surprise to some people but the fact that they seem to promote the message "be comfortable in your skin" is a nice welcome.
