But don't worry, not many people are looking for the perfect seed and it's really all about perspective in most cases. Some people prefer lots of mountain, others prefer spawning in a desert, and others, like myself, prefer a survival island seed which will always be the most challenging. Some of us are simply looking for a cool Minecraft seed to use on our server we are starting. What Are Seeds In Minecraft?
What are they used for, and how can they help.
A seed is just a code that is used to create different worlds. When you begin a new world, it generates a random seed for you. Letting Minecraft generate a random seed for you, gives you access to all of the seeds. There is said to be 18 quintillion possible seeds to use. To put this in perspective, if you played 1,000 seeds a day it would take you 10,960 years to play all of them. If you have a world that you are currently playing and are curious as to what the seed is to share to your friends or the world, go into your Minecraft world and hit [F3]. It will bring up your seed for you.
A seed is much more than that though, it isn't just a bit of code that the programmers implemented for no apparent reason. Seeds are things that the Minecraft community can discuss and find out whether or not it's good. It's something people can review for themselves or give a try to tell other people about it as well. Seeds really define Minecraft on a much more deeper level then just random little numbers, it gives us a sense of direction as well as something to do. Minecraft can get pretty boring, and with seeds in the game it levels the playing field out quite a bit.
I can't really begin to imagine what Minecraft would be like without seeds because seeds have helped forge a small community in the Minecraft world. Entire forums have been dedicated to seeds and finding the best of the best. Now to me, that's a pretty neat thing. Seeds will help you enjoy more of the game because friends online or in real life can show you a world they are playing on and if you want to start your own world, they can give you the seed. Neat huh?

Different Seeds For Different Needs
Finding a good seed that's right for you.
Not everyone is looking for the same seed and everyone isn't going to think that the same seed is the greatest. Like the old saying goes, everyone's a critic and Minecraft seeds are no exception to that rule. If they were, then I wouldn't have even bothered creating a page solely on the critiquing of seeds. But I'm a critic, sue me.
What you need to decide when starting a new Minecraft world is what your next adventure is going to be about, what goals you want to set forth, and how you are going to accomplish them. If you are just looking to build some epic creation then I would suggest playing in creative mode as this mode can help you get a lot done faster as you have access to all the blocks you want at the very beginning. There are also mods available that can help you build things faster in survival mode.
If you are looking to do something a little more challenging, I would suggest playing a survival island seed. Survival islands are a great way to test how good of a Minecraft player you are as resources on the island will be very limited. In most cases, you will only find one tree on the island which will cause some grief if you can't set up a base quickly and efficiently. Survival island seeds are my personal favorite as I am always pushing myself to see how far I can make it without dying.
Minecraft doesn't have to feel lonely, so if you want to play Minecraft with a sense of others in the game with you I would go ahead and try and find an NPC village seed filled with tetificates. They are always around and you can protect them from the zombie hoards at night. It's really up to you and how you want to perceive your world. You could be the village guardian, or the village destroyer who kills the poor creatures in the night.

Defining An Awesome Seed - What makes an awesome seed, awesome.
If you are like everyone else playing Minecraft, then maybe at one point or another you really wanted to find the best of the best seed out there. Well here is a checklist below on really determining if the seed you have found is any good or not.
- Do you spawn in a great place? To me the spawn point can really make or break a good seed. I am well aware that everyone won't spawn in the same place when they enter the world for the first part but the majority of the time if you are spawning somewhere with lots of resources readily available and a good sense of direction, that's a seed I want to play. If you spawn into a pool of lava or in a dark cave with a spawner, you better save that seed for some hardcore fans.
- Does your seed have weird floating mountain ranges? If it does, then the good news for you is that people love these types of mountains. I for one love setting up base right on top of a floating mountain to give me a lay of the land around me.
- Is there a mob spawner nearby? If so, that's awesome. People love mob spawners and I'm pretty sure you do too. It's very easy to turn a mob spawner into a grinder which could be great for you or your server. Free items for all, since the items are virtually endless.
- Is there a ravine close to your spawn? Ravines are great for people who love exploring, and ultimately, who are these people playing Minecraft that don't love exploring. enter at your own risk though because it is extremely easy to get lost or even fall down and die.

Below are some of my favorite Minecraft toys and miscellaneous things that I believe any fan of the game will love to get their hands on.
Picking A Seed For A Server
When I decided to start my first Minecraft server I knew that the seed was going to be everything to the success of that server, as well as getting the right plugins and having the right structures being built. what I really looked for in a good Minecraft server seed was to make sure I had a lot of different biomes readily available for people to go to when they wanted to branch out and start exploring and even creating their own base. The type of seed you want to use also heavily depends on what kind of server you want to start. I know this sounds silly that a seed could really have this much influence on a servers success but trust me, if you can't sell someone off on your server in the first thirty seconds of them being logged on, chances are they aren't going to stay much longer or ever come back for that matter.
You want to choose a seed for a server that is going to really capture everyone's attention and make it easy for them to get from place to place. This is where the use of plugins come in and MC Edit, but that is a completely different help guide. Make sure that your spawn is somewhere that everyone can really get a lay of the land, not trapped in some small room with tons of other people trying to figure out the secret password trying to get out. This just frustrates some people to the point of them wanting to leave, thus losing potential people looking to invest more time and even money into your server.
Not only will having a good seed help you out in a tremendous way, but it will set way towards more people wanting to come and word-of-mouth on the internet is the best kind of advertising.
It's Time To Debate!
Now everyone has their own opinions when it comes to Minecraft seeds, so I want to hear yours now. Tell me what you think.
Is finding a good seed in Minecraft necessary to have a good experience?
No, I can have fun without finding a seed.
Finding Your Own Seeds
If you want to start looking for your own fantastic seed to show off on here or the Minecraft Forums, I would suggest just logging into your Minecraft and begin punching in random words into the world seed generator. I've come across plenty of fun seeds just punching in random words and phrases into it. Try "icecreampie" and see what happens. Something fun and cool I hope. It really isn't hard at all trying to find your own and I wish you the best of luck in your quest for finding the best seed.
Now it is your chance to get in on some of the action. Promote your favorite seed here and try to get it out and about in the Minecraft community. Who knows? Maybe I will even promote it here on my lens.
