My Heavenly Angel Collection

Welcome angel collectors!

I've collected angels ever since I can remember. There is something soothing about them, something uplifting. Although the idea was to keep angels to one small corner shelf unit in my bedroom over the years they have appeared in other places as well. On the fireplace mantel, on the wall, everywhere, even in my office.

I like these gentle, nonjudgemental companions. They lend beauty and a sense of tranquility to any space they inhabit and they are always on duty twenty-four seven. Although my collection is somewhat larger than the number of angels in this lens, I hope you'll enjoy a chance to look inside my collection.

Please keep in mind all photos are of angels in my collection. However if you own the copyrights to any angel or media used herein and want credit and a link or something removed, please contact me.

Mom and Daugther Angel

My mother was an Earth angel, always giving of herself and buying me wonderful gifts for Christmas. This angelic pair of a heavenly mother and daughter was her gift to me. She was reminding me that we will always be together in our forever home.

Plus we all know a mother's love lasts forever, no matter how old we get. I may no longer have mom in an Earthly form but I can feel her loving presence every time I see these angels. And yes you are not imagining things, they do look like lovely Latino angels. Which is close enough to Italians for my mother and myself.

Angel of the Heart

This lovely angel holds a red heart as her eyes are closed in prayer. She also has a small planter attached, something unusual for my collection. And yes she is indeed a dollar store angel, they are the best!

I like the different colors used in her dress and I suppose they are meant to be for Christmas, but being Italian I'm taking the idea and running with it.

Hearth Angel

Along with another figurine this angel resides on the hearth as a house guardian. She she is pink and lovely and sweet, but she reminds me of the pink, frilly and sweet Ezili Freda, who, also having wings and being sweet and demure can still fight with the best of them, lwa of romantic love or not.

This beautiful musical figure shows us that just like people angels come in all the colors of the rainbow, and Amen to that.

Natural Angel

This angel came home from a craft fair, also as a surprise gift for Christmas. She seems to be mixed material including straw and I think raffia, though I'm not entirely sure. She is older and yes a bit tousled-looking. But for all we know this heavenly sweetheart has had grand adventures, getting ready for the birthday party of the King.

Protectoress of the Ancestors

I was raised to always respect those who came before me, and there is a private altar for my ancestors in my bedroom. This angel, a gift from my grandmother, became the protector of the altar once she passed away.

She is unusual as she lifts from her base and her hinged wings will close in front with a pattern that was clearly meant to be on display, but she must be off the base to view it.

I believe!

Some people are skeptical and I repect that, but after having my gaurdian angel save my life in college I certainly believe in guardian angels. So consider this a tribute to my own guardian angel, even if I do enjoy teasing him.

Crystal Angel

OK, she isn't made of real crystal, but this heavenly visitor is a family companion that used to only come out every Christmas. She was my mother's companion for a long time and one of her favorite Christmas pieces, so we decided to leave her out year 'round on the fireplace mantle.

You can feel a definite presence from her, and she is still a treasured companion in my home.

Snow Angel

This lovely doll was one of my mom's favorites. She is a cuddly plush with silvery wings and looks all ready for a day of fun in the snow. She is extremely cuddly and I can see why my mom treasured her.

Christmas Angel

This beautiful girl has a rather sad story. I adopted her at a church bazaar, and heard the sellers talking about her. They were making fun of her dress and the fact that she was home made. They laughed at her for having an old milk jug for a base and being so ugly and unwanted she was dumped there. Well I think every angel, like every person is beautiful so now she feels my heart with joy every time I see her.

Hand Crafted Angel

I think she is raffia or maybe another material but this natural beauty was sadly unwanted. So unwanted in fact that when I got her with her homemade sister above she was given to me as an 'ugly thing we can't believe anyone donated and you should throw her in the gargbage'. Well then! She watches over me every night and I got her the necklace to show her she is beautiful and loved.

Everything Is Beautiful

Blue Angel

This heavenly beauty only comes out for the Christmas season to grace the window and greet passersby with her soft blue light. At the darkest time of the year she is a shining light to cheer the heart.

Guardian Angel

This angel was sent to me by a very dear friend and I've always enjoyed having him on the mantel. Although he is smiling there is something about his expression that promises a fierce battle if anyone even thinks of hurting the child under his protection. He was, by the way, given to me to honor my protector and guardian Ogun Balendjo.

Red Angel

I adore this angel as she is one of a set of candleholders I bought at a dear friends going out of business sale. Although it saddened me to see my friend go (I believe back to China) I'll always have these angels to remember her and her wonderful family by.

Which angel did you like best? Do tell!

@LluviaDeArte: She has a special place in my heart as well, LluviaDeArte. I can't imagine who wouldn't want a hand-crafted item over something mass produced, but such is life. She has her forever home now, at least. Thanks for visiting and the kind words. I agree, cultures with artisans who are valued are the best. Hugs! :)

Christmas Angel was my favorite because of her story. It was rescued. The angel is adorable- people in some parts of the world would see her value as you have and I like that. Besides some times repurposed items make the best items. They are made by truly educated individuals who do not like wasted anything. Congrats to the maker of the christmas angel and the rescuer.

I like the snow angel, but perhaps the guardian angel would be more fitting. You have a lovely collection of angels. I can see why each one is special.

@anonymous: Thank you so much for the wonderful and thoughtful comments, Uma! I don't know how people could make such cruel comments about any of these heavenly creatures either. I love them all myself. Thanks so much for the kind words and visit, hugs! :)

It's hard to say which I like the best because having been introduced to them indeed I love them all. And I agree with you ...how could anyone make fun of and despise those lovely creatures that came to you for refuge from that horrible bazaar? Your pictures are wonderful. They look live living breathing beings. Very lovely work and such a nice read. Thanks.
