my odd dream

Updated on October 12, 2014

I Dream in Cartoon.

I think that should be enough to divulge the inner workings of my mind. Some say that dreams are representative of inner conflict. Others say it is your subconscious mind at work. The debate on dreams has gone on for decades. Jung was the first to introduce archetypes and many believe these archetypes play out in the dream world. I tend to think it is just a processing of information we are exposed to. I think of it as the brain's sorting box. It decides what stays and what goes into long term memory. Otherwise, I must be one messed up girl huh? I mean what would they say about a girl who dreams in cartoon?

Paul Reiser*

Ok, ok so Paul Reiser is not a cartoon, but he was a character in my dream. I think I was watching a lot of Mad About You Episodes at the time. I really cannot explain the dream ok? Now I like Paul Reiser and all, but I was a little surprised that he was in the dream. Other than myself, he was the only human present. For all of you Freudian/Jungians out there, no I do not have some paternal issues with Paul Reiser. I do not sit up late at night thinking about Paul Reiser. I do not wish for him to be one of My Two Dads. Nope. He was just a random tv personality. I mean heck. I could have just as easily picked Will Smith or possibly Urkele. Ok maybe I would have issues if it were Urkele. Anyway, these were the types of shows I was watching, and Paul Reiser just happened to be the one to sneak into my dream, singing "I have a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" by the way.

The Count
The Count

And Then There was The Count

Yes, the Count. That beloved character from Sesame Street that made vampires cool long before Twilight. Many of us learned our numbers by following the Counts example. He is very exhuberant in his counting. I have yet to find one of my favorite episodes of Sesame Street where the Count spends the night with Ernie. There's an R rated stupid version, but for whatever reason the original is not out there to be found. In the scene, the Count cannot sleep so Ernie suggests counting sheep which ends in disaster for poor Ernie!

Yes in my dream he counts. As Paul Reiser is doing a stunning rendition of "I have a lovely bunch of coconuts", the Count is saying "ONE ONE COCONUT MUAHAHAHA.. TWO TWO COCONUTS MUAHAHAH"

And Finally There is Elmo and Myself

Nothing would complete the picture like a furry Sesame Street character.

Now you have to imagine Paul Reiser singing, The Count counting, Elmo, and I all jumping on my bed. Which in itsself is a little strange seeing as how I was on the bottom bunk of a dorm room bunk bed at the time, but it's a dream right? And it's one of my favorites.

Perhaps next time I will tell you about the Killer Popcornballs from Outerspace, but I think they are easily explained by pregnancy hormones.

*Paul Reiser was not harmed in the making of this lens.

Tell me your odd dream!

I once dreamed of pyramids with mathematical equations floating in the air. I was once dreaming of something frightening and thought I don't want to dream this, so I jumped from a building and started to fly over the stars, that was cool. My latest dream was of having to get into a boat with other refugees and run from the country I was living in. It was so scary and took so long. It was also very vivid. It was dark when we pulled up to the shore and were met by armed men speaking a language I didn't understand. People were led from the boat a few at a time, and I remember wondering what is happening to them. I don't like when I dream about things like that, like it is so real and it is another persons experience, because I can't change the dream.

I used to dream consistently about a witch chasing me down a swing set slide! Who knows what that means?! Great work. I enjoyed this lens very much.
